Picture Post: AU-58, The Perfect Grade!

TommyTypeTommyType Posts: 4,586 ✭✭✭✭✭
We haven't had a good picture post in a long time!

I've seen praise heaped on AU-58 coins a lot recently, so share your imperfect beauties!

Both of these are NGC AU-58:

    Here's one

BTW, I quite like the Barber [whoops, that's a quarter, isn't it] in your post.

    IMO, that seated quarter isn't a 58.

However, this one is the ultimate 58 (not mine, but currently on Ebay):

    They're both quarters. image

But I assume you mean the Seated. You may be right....but my experience has been that seated quarters are often mushy, and my pic isn't the greatest either. I'd buy it again for the price I paid. image

Oops. Yes, left the word "seated" out, but edited the post and fixed it (mentioning that here, so people don't think you're crazy image )

Excellent coins. I still love that RE half of Baley's the most.

You know I love this grade so here you go. All the 58's I have that are photographed.

    Dang!

I think I'd still be a happy collector even if there were ONLY AU-58's!

I just checked my database....Of the 168 slabbed coins I own, 16 are graded AU-58, and 7 are graded AU-55. image

AU-58 has always been my favorite grade, as I believe that grade offers the best combination of quality and value. Besides, any coin that has not seen a bit of circulation has not fulfilled its obligation as a medium of exchange, and has no interesting history to tell.

My love for the AU-58 grade has been greatly strengthened by the fabulous coins shown on this thread. I would be remiss if I did not pay particular homage to those posted by Baley and coinlieutenant. WOW! Those are some of the nicest coins I have seen. Thank you, gentlemen, for sharing those beautiful images.

Great post on AU58 coins. They are indeed the best value for the money when purchasing. On the other hand, having a bunch of coins you bought raw as 62's or maybe 63's coming back as PCGS58 is a little frustrating when there is no wear. Regardless folks, here is a sampling of my PCGS58 seated dimes......enjoy
