Bought my second coin today ... I'm addicted already :-(

An 1884 CC NGC MS65. Does it matter whether they are certified by NGC or PCGS? I decided to stick with all 65s or better for my CC collection where financially possible. Don't worry, I won't post any more pictures after this until I get the 1889 CC someone told me to get.

Do you only buy one sided coins ??image

    BTW nice pic and coin.

Remember it's not how you pick your nose that matters, it's where you put the boogers.

  • Lol ... no. Should I post pics of both sides?

No. What matters is the coin inside the holder.

What's going on on Liberty's chin?

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

Nice die cracks on that one....
But I'm starting to get a little jealous here- your first two coins just happen to be cc morgans in 65?? image

What do you do when you need coin and have no coin (or not much)? I had to drive to an antique shop where I knew the coins were heavily PVC damaged. I bought a few Morgans anyway at near melt value. Now they're soaking in acetone. The jar is so cloudy it looks like I'm raising sea monkeys.

And very nice coin. The reverse looks like it has a double clash... one very low from the other. I think it shows near the arrows.

Planchet striations on the chin? Anyway, that's an outstanding CC coin.
  • Looks like an OK coin but there is a huge fingerprint on the obverse on thee right hand side.

NGC and PCGS would be the best choices for now but the coin ultimately has to be the determining factor.

Don't listen to anyone who gives you this advice, there are plenty of nice coins in holders other than PCGS.

This is a CC. I've seen plenty of similar in PCGS MS65 holders.

If you've posted on any other internet board before, or if you're some what clued in about these type of things, you can learn to post pictures and link and things like this in very short order. And maybe the guy has some prior photography experience. I think far more people are into that hobby than coins.

Could be a alt. ID, though. Maybe it's that guy who recently got banned over in the open forum :-]

It's a beautiful Carson City Dollar…………..Do not buy the holder buy the coin!!!!

PCGS, NGC, ANACS are all reputable certification graders. Take your time and study what interests you do not rush out and buy what comes along first. Invest in education first, purchasing second!

    Best of luck!

From the way he is spending money his original ID might be Barney.

There are beautiful coins in all varieties of holders. Here and there, there are stripped, unappealing, junky coins in all holders, even the trio of "good ones." AND, since an "NGC" coin can MAGICALLY become a "PCGS" coin with a pair of snips, submission $ and a little time in the mail, what you need to do is follow Russ' advice, and actually pay the most attention to the coin in the holder. Do not doubt the wisdom of tonelover's advice.
