If it had been anything but a Chain Cent or a Wreath Cent, it would have gotten a body bag. image

  • Geeesh. Our Chain Cent got bagged at NGC, but they did put it into an NCS holder as "EF details, damaged" holder. The thing that irritates me is that I have seen far worse Chains slabbed by NGC or PCGS, but they bag our coin. Take a look at the Heritage auction archives and you will see what I mean.

    Join the club, Jade.

I had a coin that was listed as an AU and among the finest known of the variety in Breen's new Large Cent book come back in a body bag.
The operative phrase from classic literature, is "Some pigs are more equal than other pigs."

Looking at your coin, Jade, I think that the digs that were left from the removal of corrosion spots was what did your Chain Cent in. The coin had some work done it to get rid of the corrosion spots which left those marks. That's why I think that it got the body bag.

Chain cents exist without those problems. That's why they are worth so darn much money.

Some early coins, Chains in particular, are given a lot of leeway by PCGS.
