My faith (or lack thereof) in human nature has been reinforced by this joker! My wish for these type is that they would suddenly grow a conscious so that they would actually feel the shame and embarrasment they should be feeling.
IdahoGal's solution to the 'giveaway' that you win, but don't really want, is the perfect solution.
<< <i>I won a coin shortly after I joined these boards. While it was something that didn't fit in my collection, I didn't sell it. However, I did donate it to Jeremy's charity auction. And, for what it's worth, I hope it sells for an insane amount of money. >>
That's MUCH different, and that's commendable.
This clown is apparently creating multiple IDs for the sole purpose of entering giveaways and selling the winnings.

BINGO! I would 100% stand behind the way that IG handled the situation and would have ZERO issues with it. I think that everyone is now seeing some of the reasons why this didn't sit well with me (the giveaway I had and what has been discovered so far).

Both are on the same level, somewhere around pond-scum.
I have never sold or given away any giveaway I have won here. I feel that if a person thinks enough of me to give me something, that item has meaning and I should keep it.

Well put ... I just won John's first prize in his recent giveaway. Both coins have a place of honor in my collection and shall not be parted with ... in fact, I have transferred the nice Stone Mountain to a Capital Plastic holder. Thanks again, FatMan, you need not worry about what you so kindly bestowed upon me ... I value your gift and, more importantly, the spirit in which it was given.
Ok, I think it is time for me to explain something. YC is my new account. YCCY9229 was my old account. I never enter a giveaway with both YC and YCCY9229 acounts. And for RYC, that is my sister's account. Is there a problem with two relatives enter same contest/giveaway?
What the person should have done is if he won a coin in a giveaway is at the very least, done a trade with another collector for another coin. No money changes hands and everyone is happy. Makes sense?
Not everyone is going to want to keep the coin they get in a giveaway but by trading with another collector discretely and honestly would "get" the coin into a collection that is appreciated.
<<What's interesting is that it was won under one ID and is being sold under another. I am pretty certain it is the same coin as the IDs are only 1 letter different, come from the same town (in Canada) and have the same real name.>>
My real name is Yi Chen that is why my user us YC. And my sister's real name is Rui Ying Chen so she chose RYC. And my sister did won Bochiman's contest and won a 1968s nickel not long time ago. I trade few coins(common ones) to her for the nickel. Hope that explains.
I have sold to and corresponed with YC in the past and had no problems. And i believe he is a poster on the darkside. I even have an alt ID of just "spinaker" that I use while at the beach on my friends computer (I had forgotten my password).
I can accept a brother/sister doing the board....from the short correspondence, I would have guessed female.....still doesn't look good, nor feel good, though.
I have only had one giveaway and that was for my 1000 post. I would be very surprised if the coin I gave away was still in the collection of the winner of that giveaway. The fellow that won it was the new owner and could or did do with it as he pleased.
But with that said, to turn around that quick and put it on the BST was a bit on the tacky side. I have passed on a few of the giveaways on these forums because I wasn't interested in what was up for grabs. Why not give those really interested a better shot at winning with fewer entries?
As you guys can see that I am selling amlost whole coins from my collection. Why I am selling? Because I need money for more expensive coins. Before, I collect common coins. and now I just changed my mind. I am more desire to own few key dates rather than hundreds of common coins.
<< <i>It doesn't seem right to turn around and sell them. Tacky was used and it's a good description. >>
Maybe ungrateful and unwise are good choices too. Sounds like the YN needs a little parental guidance and involvement as to the "hows/whys" of life in general and receiving gifts in particular.
My son, notlogical, enters frequently, (and wins frequently too ) but he absolutely treasures each and every coin, book, magazine, holder, flip, you name it that has been given him. But his Mom and I have been there, explaining the generosity behind it and guiding him in writing "thank you" notes. Kind of gives him "ownership" of the gift, thus making it more his...if that makes sense. Giveaways have offered him the chance to meet and become aquainted with some wonderful people in the hobby. And we try really hard to instill that kind of appreciation of things, both for things earned and for those given, into him. And I hope it shows. I know it has paid great dividends to him when how he literally lights up when he gets a "thank you" note for his "thank you" note.
Entering giveaways in order to turn them around to up-grade your collection is tacky, no matter the explination, but the tackiness seems to be a symptom of a deeper cause. Sounds like the kid needs a good mentor to help show him the ropes. hopefully this thread will ring a few bells with him too

Collecting coins, medals and currency featuring "The Sower"
Well its a little better, not by much, than GregTheGreat he used to beg for things here and then turn around and sell them on the BST. It is bad for all YN's who enter hoping to get a $10 coin.
"Well here's another nice mess you have gotten me into" Oliver Hardy 1930
Not here, but on another site. I gave away the 2 piece Yellowstone proof/unc set and it was auctioned within 2 weeks. Made me a little sore that the guy crapped all over himself thanking me, and then got only about 40% for it. Since then, my giveaways/contests have been geared to YN's.

Nevertheless....very tacky. From now on, winners of giveaways should all be predetermined! Kind of like our elections.
