Need shipping advice!

I've been shipping boxes of nickels to some people on eBay. I just heard from one of my customers who said that when they got their package, the top of the unopened box was torn open and a couple rolls of nickels were busted open. I took the unopened box of nickels and put them in the 11x8x5 flat rate priority mail box and filled the box with newspaper. I've heard from several other people who have had the inner box break open in transit. Any ideas on how I can keep this from happening?

One thought I had was to sandwhich the inner box of nickels between two pieces of plywood and duct tape them together. What do you think? Is there an easier way? How expensive is plywood?!
I heard they were making a French version of Medal of Honor. I wonder how many hotkeys it'll have for "surrender."

I always put rolls in a bubble envelope and then inside a priority flat rate USPS. It never busts out.

Yesterday I received the current Heritage auction catalog in a flat rate envelope. I needed only to dump the catalog out of the envelope to see it, the envelope was trashed. I guess I have not spent enough money recently in Heritage auctions to deserve regular priority envelopes. Need I say more about the flat rate envelopes?image

My Heritage catalog arrived beat to chit too!! The 50 roll coin boxes are rather flimsy. I would get a roll of about 1 and 1/2 or 2 inch wide packing tape and tape the inner box with that. Ruins the box I know but its better than the alternative.

My Heritage catalog fell out of the envelope when I took it out of the mail box. As far as shipping the rolls. I would tape bobble pack around the rolls so that they would hold together and not become little missle inside the box...

The rolls he is shipping are in the original bank box which is then put inside the priority mailer. The original bank box gets destroyed from all of the bouncin around during transport.

  • Fatman, that is a great post you linked. However I am using the 11x8x5 flat rate box, not a flat rate envelope.

Does anyone think my plywood idea would work? How expensive is plywood?

Just wrap the inner box in tape. Or take a cereal box and wrap around the inner box and tape that tight.

Wrap the smaller box in bubblewrap and tape it on. Make sure you use enough bubble wrap that the outer package is full, I promise it will get to them just fine. I bring home used bubblewrap from work, so the price is rightimage
