Pedro Martinez? the announcers were saying he is a shoe in tonite 5 time leader in era 3 cy youngs. and a ring so far.

if he is a shoe in then why not curt schilling? do they soley go on stats these days, or does the media hype help the new era of players out?

Pedro has 3 cy youngs, 2 2nd place votes, 5 time era leader (2nd once), over a 70% winning percentage, lifetime era of 2.71.

Schilling has 3 second place cy young (no wins), twice was second in league era, and just under 60% winning percentage, lifetime era of 3.32.

Schilling is a good pitcher, but never dominated.

Pedro to the hall, no pass for schilling.

Schilling already has a sock in the hall that should be good enough image. I think if Schilling gets to 3000 k's which he should I think he will be a bubble guy with a shot at getting in. One major contributor may be that he has been a huge post season pitcher winning some very big games. However, if Blyleven doesn't get in I don't think Curt will either.

Schilling getting in is like the Hodges/Tino thead. Unless he goes on and on and has numerous spectacular years, fogetaboutit.

Pedro is no cinch either. If him, why not Guidry?

Schilling is an interesting case. He has been overshadowed by Randy Johnson while compiling dominating seasons. Schilling got 2nd in CY Young because Johnson was chosen over him. It was not that clear cut if Johnson was better or Schilling when speaking in baseball terms. They were both so dominating that eventually, the public, writers and media had to go with one superstar pitcher as ranked #1 even though #2 was not in any sense inferior.
