Nice boxes
Has anyone ever dealt with this seller? Private auctions never inspire much confidence. He also has two neutrals out of 19 public auctions (Diecast cars).
Those basketball boxes look pretty nice, and that '54 Bowman box isn't bad either. What's a bidder to do.....

stuff like the bowman 54 football would find its way to an auction house..to many unreal items all ending in a time frame where the seller can get all the money and then disapear. Its my opinon, stay away...

A couple things about the top packs that just look wrong... If it was missing one pack, why do they appear to be aligned evenly? Also, the top row appears to be sitting up on something and you can't see any packs underneath. I could understand if each section were perfected aligned with each other; however, the top left one is crooked. Therefore, one would assume you could see the others below it. But instead, it's like looking into a bottomless pit.
While I would love nothing more than to bust that box, it ain't worth the risk.

<< <i>If you look real close to that picture under the top right pack, I think I see a pack underneath it, see the white lines of the pack underneath the top one.

Excellent point and I noticed that as well. Having said that and using the same logic, shouldn't you see the lines under the top left one... Especially considering that it's tilted and the packs (allegedly) under would be exposed rather than the bottomless pit?
My '54B FB set is about 65% complete and that's my next challenge after I complete my current projects (mainly the '54B. '55T. and '56T). Speaking of, anyone have a '55T Clemente PSA 5 that they would be willing to part with at a reasonable price??
The buyers in his past auctions don't look like obvious shills. Peteb316 for example won three of his auctions and he's a big buyer and seller of cards. Only two buyers have very low feedback (under 20).
I don't remember the scans being in any other auctions (how often do you see 37 74/75 Topps hockey packs?).

Q
Good afternoon, I am very interested in your '54 Bowman box but I have a few questions prior to making a bid: 1) Why did you make the Bidder ID's private? 2) Will you accept a paypal payment or consider an escrow service? If not, will the payment be sent to a physical address with a phone number or a PO Box? 3) Could please you provide a picture of all of the packs' front and back rather than in the box? I truly appreciate your cooperation and look forward to hearing back from you soon. Thanks!!
A
Hello, I run all my auctions now private because people generally bid more when they know no one else can see what they are buying. I'm not set up for paypal so a check or money order is fine. I'll try to get some additional pictures for you if I can get with the consignor as he might be away for the weekend, thanks for your interest.

This brings up even more questions... He's doing a private auction so it can bring in more cash. Well, under the same scenario, it would bring even more cash if it were cosigned with someone having a better feed back than 25 items and a longer member since Feb '05. Additionally, he didn't mention about if the payment would be sent to a PO Box or physical address with a phone number.
While it is tempting, I'm gonna pass..

What exactly can ebay do, anyways? Until there is a complaint filed by a buyer, they can't exactly go around banning anyone who might be 'suspicious'.

I agree. it smacks a little of calling police on the homeless guy on the street because "he looks like he might steal" from you.
I missed out on the paoutdoorsman2004 scam in the past - is there an old thread with this topic?

Scam
For example, say you sold a 1952 Topps reprint set and saw an auction a week later by the buyer listing an "authentic" 1952 Topps Mantle that looks exactly like the one in the reprint set you sold (it has the same centering, print mark, etc...). It may be yours, it may not be, but I feel if you are almost certain it's the same one and the seller is defrauding the high bidder you should at least notify ebay. They may or may not stop the auction, but at least an investigation took place. Basically, ebay's not going to take action without reason, and if something seems a little shady, then it doesn't hurt to ask them to look into the seller.

Right out of the "Scammer's Book Of Evasive Answers To Give To Suspicious Buyers." I just bet a check or money order would be fine.

you will not get one.

How convenient! The consigner just happens to be away for the weekend of the auction.
There are going to be some big fireworks in PA if these auctions continue and the net result is what we all think it will be. He's got over $10 k in bids.

Edit-
'54B "box" is now up to $1,775.00
I think this has to be photoshop work. Remember how good the soriano lots he did as paoutdoorsman looked?
The odds of someone really having this has to be a hundred billion to one, if not impossible.

i dont know much about 1985 topps, but i doubt it would be impossible.. as a rickey henderson collector, i see alot of racks & cellos from various years with Henderson on top, and i'm sure if i wanted to i could have accumulated quite a few by now, even his rookie racks..

I agree, but could you collect 18 different rack packs?
Wouldn't these packs have some of the same cards on the top, along with the McGwire?
With 24 packs in a box, he had to go through......198 boxes!!
Not to mention his other auctions. 51 racks with Bonds on the top, 27 with Mattingly.
In his description, he says it took box after box to get these racks. Apparently, he's gone through hundreds of cases.......
Take a look at the scans- overall they are pretty consistent (black background, easy to do), but on the basketball GAI packs, they were done on a scanner with a white background, and on the 1976 Football GAi packs they were done on a black background. Also, why didn't he just scan the Ted Williams postcard instead of taking a picture of it? I don't doubt that any of the items are real and exist somewhere in the world, I just don't think he actually has any of them.
