Palm Beach Show wrapup

Went to the show today, not as well attended by dealers as was the first show. The walk in crowd was light (it's Thursday), but I saw several large transactions taking place.

My real purpose in going was to hit the Heritage Auction. IMHO, prices were firm, but I didn't see any runaway bidding like I saw at FUN.

Pre-1800 pieces went for good money, with none selling "cheap." 1852 3 cent silver was at $550 + the juice (15%)for a nice MS 64. 1864 SM 2 cent piece went $1200 plus juice for a MS 64.

Monster NGC MS 64 1912S Lib went for $5500 plus juice!!!!! I wanted to bid on the coin, but the OPENING bid shut me up!!

Buffalo 16//16 went $27K plus juice in NGC 55. Buff in NGC 66 -- a 37D three legged -- went $75k plus juice. 1853 ARROWs dime in NGC 69* went 50K plus juice.

Mercs sold with NGC 16D in 64FB at 24K+; 19D in NGC 65FB at 17K+; 19S in PCGS 65FB at 18K+; and 27D in PCGS 65FB at $7300+.

I bought a cool color 42P Merc in 68 (no bands) at $1300+. I also bought a neat lot of 15 color NGC 67 49S roosies for $600+....was very disappointed in the 48S roosie in 68* FT -- it's a 66 in a 68 holder.....and that coin was why I drove all the way from Miami!!

Last lot I saw was 1875-CC NGC 65* twenty cent piece at $9500+ juice....COOL COLOR COIN === whoever bought it done good!!!

Overall, always great fun to see old coin buddies, but PB needs to work to rival FUN as the big Kahuna in Florida coin land.image

PS and I bought Larry Shepard a Ben & Jerry's ice cream for hyping my roosies in his Newsletter!

I was there too. Very light on the bourse floor today (and yesterday dealer only day also.)

    I snagged three coins in Heritage before retiring. 1882 NGC Proof 65 Shield nickel $375, 1806 Draped Bust Half PCGS F 12 O. 116 R. 5 knobbed 6 small stars. pop. 3 in F 12, 23 finer. $525.

My most hopeful coin is an experiment for me. I bought an 1875-S 20 cent piece in a PCGS MS 62 old green holder. I looked at it extensively in the afternoon. It has a couple of small bag marks on the reverse, but the obverse is almost mark free. It has a funky color/blotchy toneing. Tomorrow after I pick it up I'm submitting it right away to NCS for conservation. I have never done this before but from what I saw if the coin is "conserved" it might jump 2 points in my opinion. It'll be interesting to see how it comes out. I'll keep you all informed.

The twenty cent piece looks better than I thought...
