Grades in

1 21900026 1928 1C USA MS65RD - Trugrade - I submitted as a cross the first time, this time I cracked it and it crossed
2 21900027 1936 10C USA MS64FB - I thought the Mercs all had a chance at 65FB
3 21900028 1934-D 10C USA MS63FB
4 21900029 1939-D 10C USA MS64FB
5 21900030 1935-D 10C USA MS65
6 21900031 1971 10C USA MS64 - image My first (and probably last) modern sub - thought it was 66FB
7 21900032 1948 50C USA MS63FL - nice tone - coin belonged to my wife's grandad
8 21900033 1943 50C USA MS65 - bought it raw on ebay
9 21900034 1941 50C USA MS66 - bought it raw on ebay
10 21900035 1945-D 50C USA MS65 - bought it raw on ebay
11 21900036 1941-S 50C USA MS64 - ICG crackout - crossed
12 21900037 1879-S S$1 USA MS63 - I can't remember where I got this one - probably a PCI greeny

A little bumbed on the Mercs but overall I'm very pleased.
I think I've got the Walkers figured out. This went in with
another 20 coins which was a nice mix of classic coins
including Peace$s and Buffs. We'll see how those do.

Was accepted 2/8.

Thanks Cameron. Coming from you I especially appreciate it.

I must say this was a risky submission (36 coins), almost $600
    in fees.

I feel vindicated on the '28 Lincoln which was my first copper
coin to get holdered - the first three have come back either
    DNC or BB.

    Good job on the grades.

Some winners, some losers. Not bad at all.

    hey Greek

you have some sac buying those Walkers raw from eBay and i'm glad they graded well for you. don't give up on Moderns, just spend some time being more critical of yourself and more sure of what you submit. i used to assume when i thought MS66FB and the coin returned MS64 that i was blind. i'm not as sure of that today, though there are times when i think someone is blind!!!image

  • It seems to me that all the big services (PCGS/NGC/ANACS) are getting tough on moderns.

BTW nice going on those walkers! image

    Thanks,

I love Walkers. The design is inspired. One of the best US coins.
The 41-S is a tough coin in better grades as you probably know.
I've looked at about 100 of them and when I saw this one I knew
it would work for me until I can afford a 65. The coin has the
hand outline (which is important to me) but has a few marks in the
right field which make it an automatic 64, max.

I'll have a picture for you when they come back. The 41 is a complete
    surprise at 66.

Good show on the Walkers, BigGreek image

PCGS has been horrific on the Mercs lately. The coin has to walk on water and raise the dead to get in to a 65FB holder the last few months. So don't feel bad...it's not you.

Well.. here's the next batch which was part of the submission..

    1 21900038 1922-D S$1 USA MS63 - I thought these all had a shot at 64 with the 23-S being my big hope
2 21900039 1922-D S$1 USA MS62 - I was hoping one of these was a 64, oh well, they are both nice coins
    3 21900040 1923 S$1 USA MS64
    4 21900041 1923 S$1 USA MS64
    5 21900042 1923-S S$1 USA MS64 - got my 64 image
    6 21900043 1923 S$1 USA MS63 - ????
    7 21900044 1923 S$1 USA MS64
    8 21900045 1923 S$1 USA MS64
    9 21900046 1923 S$1 USA MS63 - wtf - I thought I knew my Peace$s
    10 21900047 1945-S 25C USA MS65 - these were a batch of nice Washies I picked up I felt 65 was the upper end
    11 21900048 1957 25C USA MS64 - I will post a pic of this - amazing tone but a little slide friction made it 64
    12 21900049 1955-D 25C USA MS65
    13 21900050 1957 25C USA MS65
14 21900051 1958 25C USA MS65 - this was next to the one above in the old album I got these in
    15 21900052 1944-D 25C USA MS65
    16 21900053 1954 25C USA MS64 - another super toner - I don't care about the grade for these
    17 21900054 1913 5C Type 2 USA AU58 - oh well, these are my first Buffs - sigh
    18 21900055 1913-D 5C Type 1 USA Cleaning - sigh
    19 21900056 1913 5C Type 1 USA MS63 - alot to learn here, isn't it obvious
20 21900057 1909 1C Lincoln USA Artificial Color - this coin is very red but the luster is just a touch subdued I am now 1/4 on my Lincolns image

    MercGuy,

I recently got back a bunch of short set Mercs where the grades where
out of sight (my first 67FB). I guess they are a bit tougher on the earlier dates.

I still have two more short set Mercs out of the batch I purchased which got
the big numbers. I will submit those soon and see how its trending.

I too made a few 67FB's in December, a bunch of semi-key 66FB's in late December/1st week of January and a number of KEY 65FB's as well in those batches and then the floor fell out since then. Have sent in over 20 dimes and only 1 scored 65FB -- all the dimes were out of the same batch and were basically the same yet earlier ones (late last year) were getting 66FB and 65FB and in the last 2 months 63's, 64's and 64FB's with only 1 65FB.

Let me know how your next batch makes out. I too have about 14 dimes in grading now and I'll post grades on those once I hear back...by end of next week.
