Another fantastic medal from Chicago's 1933-34 Century of Progress Exposition.

This one's actually a common medal but by no means common in the condition/grade as this. It actually looks exactly as the sellers pictures show, so clean and pristine that it could have been struck this morning!!!!!! Even the inner box which houses the medal is incredibly nice and fresh looking. Apparently someone purchased it at the Expo and locked it away for 70+ years. While I haven't yet removed it to look at the reverse I expect the same appearance since it probably wasn't taken from the holder since it was placed there in 1933. Amazing!!!!
I'd have to say that the previous generation sure had some nice collecting habits..........................

The Ludlow Brilliant Collection (1938-64)
While they rarely look so nice this one is commonly found in unc. I doubt that it's
really all that common judging from the number I've seen. There are probably few-
er than 5,000.

the whole CPIE is an enigma to me. the medals, architecture, art-------everything about it was progressive and upbeat at a time when the country probably needed it most but could afford it least. ironically, the exposition was the first to show a profit!!!!
the medals from the expo as a whole are quite nice and generally available so i'm willing to wait till i can find beauties like this one. there's an Italian Dollar that has striding male/female figures on both sides that's beautiful, but i haven't found a gem yet, though i did get lucky on the two others below.
