Can you describe what is wrong with the coin and/or post a picture? It would help us in determining the problem and if it's terminal.

  • Well I don't have a good way of taking pictures. It is currently in an one of the old NGC slabs graded MS64 and has one spot of toning on it that I would like to have removed. I think it has a good chance at a 65 once that is taken care of because there are not spots at all on it, perfectly clean surfaces with the exception of the toning. I don't think that this should keep the grade from going higher though. Will they take off a point for toning is some situations...it is ugly toning by the way.
  • I'll be happy to take that "ugly" coin off your hands image

NCS does wonders on copper. You can submit to NCS such that they guarantee the grade of the NGC holder it is in. If they can conserve the coin, and guarantee the grade, they will do so. If they think the conservation would not maintain/improve the grade, they will leave it alone.

Costs are reasonable considering they are professionals at conservation. I would have no problem sending them a FE cent if it has a problem. But make sure it has a legitimate chance at a 65 before you start this endeavor unless you are going to keep the coin anyway.
