Just hit 100 posts ?give away?

It seems to be a tradition to have a 100 post give away.

So many of you are expert collectors, or dealers. I don't have anything that I'm willing to give away, that I think you would want.

So let me hear from newbies, collecting more modern coins.

I may be wrong here, I admit that. And I do get the most usefull advice and comments from the experts.

So if I'm wrong q-in and tell me so. And I'll let in everyone.

There is no rules that you have to have a giveaway. 100 posts is nothing.

  • But tradition is tradition.

Don't want to go against tradition.

But as a novice collector I don't have a lot. A merc, or walker worn to planchet. Dirty brown old pennies, a handfull of unsearched acumulated change.
Another novice might find somthing they could use but not a master.

Cam, give lonelyp something to boost that collection. A nice sample slab perhaps? image
  • The collection is one thing, what I could give away is another.
I do have some buffs I got from coin vaultimage Who knows what they did to them. Your guess is better than mineimage

You're so heartless Kiefer, 100 posts IS something and maybe something special to an individual. You started with 1 just like the rest of us.
"If I had a nickel for every nickel I ever had, I'd have all my nickels back".
  • Cammy - 100 posts is something to me! Since I am a newbie and I don't know a lot about coins, I don't have a lot to contribute. So it took me a while to get to 100.

lonelyp - You don't have to give away anything. I have a bunch of extras. That's why I gave away what I did. Don't worry about it! Congrats on getting to 100!

    image lonelyp,
Don't worry, Be Happy! Like Cameron said no big deal if you don't have a giveaway at 100. I went over 1,000 and haven't had a giveaway. Do what feels good to you! Enjoy your collection and reading, learning, and the rest will come. Also I don't know Cameron personally but I don't think he was belittleing anyones post count. I can't speak for him but I think he meant in the general context of post counts that 100 is a small number? Enjoy, Lee

  • Sure -- do a giveaway -- one of those CV buff nickels. Count me in! It's the spirit of the thing that matters. (Plus, I can add it to my tube of CV nickels -- I bought from them once or twice too!! image)
Life got you down? Listen to John Coltrane.
  • But you know, I was thinkin,
Shouldn't it be the other way round?

When you get 100 post in every one gives you some thingimage

    Then you have a image

You've got to be kidding. There are a lot of young kids out there that would take anything for free. I've had about ten giveaways lately and for YN's only and had no problem having them jump on the chance to get coins. Don't worry about the big shot experts. Just give away something, anything as long as it's a coin, someone will want it otherwise they wouldn't be here. You could probably offer a Roosevelt Dime and someone would say send it to ME.

When Cameron hits 50,000 posts he's giving himself away to an Olson twin - the one not on drugs !

Videos available on request.... Sorry Cam...had to get that in.

No one has ever mentioned that its a "have to" about a give-a-way. I had one on my five hundreth post...and gave the winner and the runners up their birth year proof sets.

You're 100% correct about the dealers and the more mature collectors - we have what we need - make the give - a way for the YN's. They need it alot more than we older collectors. ( Yes, Cammie, you're too old now , you're over 18 ) .

Try and stump a newer collector and make it worth his while. You really don't need a give a way at 100 posts, though.

  • Well, it's a relief to know that the 100-post giveaway is optional, because I'm in exactly the same boat as lonelyp. Still filling up those Whitman folders . . .

As a YN, I would be happy to get anything. You dont neccessarily have to do a giveaway but speaking for the YN's, anything is appreciated.

I'm in the same boat here. I don't even remember when I hit my 100 post mark, but I knew I didn't have anything I could give away that woudln't be considered 'junk' by the majority of the people here. Eventually I may have an extra something that I could give away, but as it stands now I simply don't have anything 'extra'. (Though I do have some silver Roosevelt Dimes, but I hope to eventually trade those for upgrades on parts of my other collections). So don't stress out over not having something to give away. Those who can give stuff away aren't hurting themselves in any manner by doing so, so that is why they are doing it. I think everyone here would agree that if you don't have something you want to give away, or if you would 'hurt yourself' by doing so, then don't give something away. We won't be upset about that.
I collect the elements on the periodic table, and some coins. I have a complete Roosevelt set, and am putting together a set of coins from 1880.
  • Morning Group,

Thanks for all the replys and nice comments.
First let me say I didn't mean to put an AGE limit on a giveaway.
I'm an old fart my self (43 for a little while longer) But NEW to coin collectingimage

I see so many talking about Morgans, Half dimes, 3cent pcs, and the like.
When I'm just trying to build a Kennedy Half with proof collection, and as a result of using mint sets and proof sets to do it I have dimes nickles quarters and cents from 1964 - now. The Kennedy set is my KEY collection.

This is why I asked about Newbies ( no age limit ) as aposed to experts, master collectors.
I'm more than happy to give something away. But don't want to give POCKET CHANGE, to an expert collecting half dimes.

The half dimes I know are nicklesimage
So if your New to coin collecting and looking for more modern coins. You qualify for my giveaway Let me know what your looking for and I'll be happy to see what I can do. I know no one expects me to hurt myself.
Pardon me for being long windedimage

I have only had two giveaways, at 5000 and 10000 posts. But I gave good stuff both times. image
