New collector question on state quarters

I might be interested in state quarters but I have a question regarding the prices I see on some of them.
Higher priced quarters are a result of low mintage?, low availablity of MS67 up?, hype?, or all of the above?
Anyone care to take the time to clue me in?
Thank you very much

State Quarters are a favorite of mine. I do the proof sets and mint sets, as well as pull from circulation. I have two of the USMint Official Portfolios. One I am filling one from mint sets, and the other from circulation. The one from circulation is real tough one, especially from the Denver Mint. We just don't see all that many here in Atlanta. The best thing about the collection is the cost involved. Tons of fun with no downside.
I also have a full set of proofs in PCGS 69DCam. These too are affordable as they are easily bought on ebay for less than $20. I am not a fan of the pop toppers that go for big bucks. There are too many, and in superb condition sitting in proof sets and mint sets to believe any true condition rarity exists. It is only a matter of time before the pop toppers are joined by equals in mass. Enjoy!
