Anacs XF Details Net VF20 - Corroded

What should I pay for this? Is this as good as they get? It's for my type set, should I pass?

No pic yet, sorry. I'm more looking for knowledge of the series, thanks.

Classic Head Large Cents are expensive. They are tough to find, and almost every single one you seeis a porous or corroded planchet. Depending on how much you are looking to spend, you may find its right for you to pick one up that has some porosity, but still has an overall good look. (ie, lots of detail, no green corrosion, etc).

I would imagine an EF net VF coin would still sell for several hundred dollars. Should you buy it? Only you can really answer that.

Are you keeping your type set slabbed or putting it in an album?

Oh, and show a pic of the coin you're considering buying, I'm curious to see.

I'm going to TTT this because I'm curious to see other's answers to this as well.

You will be a lot happier if you wait and pick up an example without the corrosion. They are available if you look. For example try this seller Chris McCawley

Keep in mind that when looking at his prices he grades by EAC (Early American Coppers) standards. These grades in general will almost always slab one grade higher and often two.

Kinda like I thought, even the classic heads on that site are a bit granular or have some scratches. Tough coin to find. Very very tough.

Stan, without seeing the coin it sounds like it might be worth $2-300, maybe as high as $500 if it's nice.

The dealer Jim linked has a great selection and appropriate prices for his conservative grades

you can see a decent coin starts at multiple hundreds and just goes up from there.

These are going into a type set album inspired by the one and only - Baleyimage I do however keep the inserts and paste them to the back page of the album. So, come to think of it, an insert that has corroded on it would bug me....

Looks nice from the pic...how does a strong VF relate to the rest of your collection? Does it fit?

That one would fit nicely. It's actually the best I've seen in that grade w/o the corrosion, porosity, scratches, nicks, dings, bends, etc....If the consensus here amongst the experts is that this is a nice coin, and if it's still available (email sent), then I will purchase itimage

I emailed him early yesterday, and I am still awaiting his reply. It's either gone, or he doesn't wish to sell coins. Either way, he could respondimage

    Stan,
I gave him a call (local for me) and his answering machine says he's in Baltimore until Sunday night. Give him a chance.

Thanks for the heads up. I was thinking that he'd have to be busy because we all know he must want to sell coins...

    Cheers,

The 1814 Plain 4 is THE type coin of the series, and probably, will be the most reasonably priced for the grade.

I'm waiting too. I just held off buying some other coins in anticipation that he didn't sell this coin in Baltimore. Hopefully, he still has it as it's one of the best I've seen in my hunt. But, there will be others, it's all part of the funimage

To The Top. It is used to move a thread back to the front of the list rather than let it get lost in the crowd.
