Anyone ever see a yellow NGC slab ???

I took this pic with the slabs lying on my desk, no copystand or lighting set up, the slab is a little more yellow then the pic shows.

    Yep, I have/had a few

  • I have seen a few and I think it was just a different mixture of plastic when they made it or they used a different color for a time. I have only seen them in that generation slab.

I didn't notice it when I first got the slab, today I was doing some reshuffling of slabs and the yellow jumped right out at me.

Yes, I ve seen some off-white NGC slabs like that.

I always figured that those slabs may have been exposed to direct sunlight for prolonged periods (like in a coin store showcase by a window) which may have turned them an off-white color...

I think it was a bad batch of plastic. I first noticed one of them around the time the first printing of the slab book was done. I don't think I got a mention into the book. Cameron is right though they are only found on one variety of holder, I think it was NGC 5. And they are only on a very small percentage of them so it was probably just one shipment of inserts.

It's either UV damage (not likely) or else the melt temperatures were too high during the injection molding process resulting in degraded polymer.
