koby - the reason I come here is that 99% of the time, this forum is fillled with great info and up to the minute news of what's happening in the hobby. I just get tired of the same propaganda from the same people.

For what it's worth, a run of 5 or 6 Star Nolan Ryan cards have just been graded 10s by 4 sharp and are now on the bay. These have been graded within the last month. Search for Ryan PSA 10.

Mudflap, I believe that PSA does grade the Star baseball cards (just not the basketball).

Coolidge is correct. It was the basketball Star cards I was referring to.

well 4SC just listed a Nolan Ryan 1984 Ralston Purina card graded PSA 9.

    Go figure!

This issue has really begun to annoy me. PSA just chooses to ignore the questions. If they ignore us long enough, they figure we'll drop it. Frankly, I'm surprised this thread hasn't been pulled. I guess 4SC had this newly listed Ryan graded a long time ago. Yeah, right.

PSA is my primary choice for grading. I my not submit as many as DSL or the 4SC but I submit quite a few. I do not believe any submitter gets perferred treatment, just because if it ever got out, PSA would be through. Its not a sound business plan to do so. Pricing is one thing, grades are another. I just recently had a wonderful submission with many 10's on it. I soured through over 4000 cards to pick out 315. Thats 4000 cards in runs of gem mint stuff from cut card cases. Even then I only had about 40% 9's and 10's. Except for the occasional paper wrinkle, I expected 95% to come back 9 or 10. (We always expect the best) but was very happy with 40% 9 and 10. Do I think I got perfered treatment? No way. What keeps the DSL's and the other dealers sending the stuff in is ALL OF US WHO ARE PAYING THE MONEY FOR THE CARDS. If I didnt have paying customers, I wouldnt submit 1974's -1978's.
As for the other grading services, GAI is run by the original staff of PSA. SGC I think does a great job too. I dont know much of the others but there far from hacks. PSA is the choice because its the oldest and most recognized. I also feel that "most" of the time they do a pretty damn good job. I usually disagree with a few now and then but doesnt everyone?
  • Good Afternoon Everyone,

Sorry for the delay but I needed to do some research prior to answering your questions.

We are no longer grading this issue and if two were graded it was in error. I will be bringing this up to our operations manager to be sure it doesn't happen again.
Also, I have contacted our Set Registry department to ask them to remove this issue from our program.

If and when they decide to re-grade them, grading will be open to collectors and dealers alike.

I'll echo that as well, thanks for the answer.
  • Sometimes it takes a little while to talk to everyone and get back to you all.

BJ sent me an e-mail and asked if people could e-mail the set registry department at setregistry@collectors.com to speed up the removal process.
Someone also brought up the Nestle issues which I will look in to.

  • It pains me to say it but for once dabighurt was right:

<< <i>Is it possible this is an honest mistake by PSA? You know, how sometimes in a big company, the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing? Or do you actually think there's a grand conspiracy to defraud the millions of Ralston Purina PSA collectors out there and corner this lucrative market? >>

Now looking for a 1950 Bowman Baseball Box as pictured below.

  • I know this is a sore subject with several board members but has anyone seen this version/title of the 84 RP's? Is this the same card or a variation?Rose card

Looking for 81-84 Topps Stickers in PSA 9 or better, 81 Topps Scratch offs, 83 Topps Fold outs in PSA 8 or better, 83 Fleer Stamps and 81/86 Fleer Star Stickers in PSA 9 or better.

This card shown in the auction is the Ralston Purina version of the card, not the Topps Cereal Series card. The Topps Cereal Series cards match the Ralston Purina card except for the replacement of the words "Ralston Purina Company" with "CEREAL SERIES" at the top. PSA mislabeled the card.
  • Yet another honest error, but thank god they have graded over 8,000,000 cards and are certified and not some across the street hack shop like those other graders.

    Saving you the time dabighurt...

  • The reason I ask is that it is listed on the Pete Rose Master set registry as the cereal card. I have one but it is labled like most others I suppose as the Ralston-Purina card. My thinking is that if PSA is not going to grade them then it should be removed from that registry. My $.02......Red

  • Got an email from BJ stating the difference between the two cards as stated in an earlier post. BJ also said that the card in question is mislabled and will be removed from the registry. Thanks for the help and hope I didn't drum up more bad feelings about this series....Red

  • better grab another 40 OZer!! I hear you though, I do think its a crock. But in the end... ralston purina cards?!?!?! again, come on down to pre-war. none of these modern shenanigans and BS. Sorry to say it, but you've been screwed by PSA and I'm not so sure but there may just be something to this 4SC and DSL issue afterall...
