Sweden, 1750 2-Daler plate money recovered from the Nicobar, which sank off South Africa in 1783 while en route to India. Comes with salvor's certificate. $300. Will consider swaps of Darkside material I can sell in my antique mall booth. This thing is too big to fit in the trays of my Spin Display cases. (I used to have a regular display case but sold it when I moved- the new location is a bit smaller).

If you haven't seen a piece of plate money before, imagine a bloody huge honkin' piece of copper, about as big as a roofing tile, with four round stamps (countermarks of the royal monogram) punched into the surface at each corner, and a center stamp with the denomination. This "coin" is bigger than a US coin Redbook or a Seaby/Spink catalog, but thinner, of course.

Danglen and I each bought one of these at the 2004 FUN show in Orlando. I don't have a picture of mine at the moment. Glenn (rhound1977) took a shot of mine there in Orlando but the URL on that pic has gone bad. Some of you who were there will remember this monstrosity. Maybe Dan has a picture of his. At any rate, I will snap a picture of mine sometime soon.

Here is a borrowed picture. (The "coin" in the pic is a 4-daler piece, though.)

    Holy Cow! imageimage

I'll say! I have some of those, so I know what they usually look like! Wow! 67!!!

Where do you get this stuff? You must be one helluva cherrypicker, if you're submitting them yourself- and I assume you are.

You have the right sort of swapstock for me if you want a certain big ol' honkin' piece of copper... I could use some nice slabby stuff like you've been selling. I'm not as much into Asian stuff as I am European, but... image

You have to spend time looking through lots and lots of coins. Every Saturday I hit a shop or two and visit several bidboards. For example, on Thursday I was at the Long Beach show, arriving at Karl Stephens' table at 10:00. Except for a short lunch break I sat there until they kicked me out at 7:00 looking at every single coin in his inventory. Next you have to develop an eye, the ANA grading course is very helpful for this, and send lots of coins through TPGs to get a feel for how they grade. I send coins just for the lesson, I know they're losers but the slabbing fee is worth the education to me.

About 97% of the stuff I sell is self-submitted. Most of the others come from e-bay, usually things that sell cheap due to crappy pictures, scary sellers or poorly chosen ending times. An occasional coin here and there is bought already slabbed off fixed price lists, dealer inventories or other collectors.

I'm actually very low on stuff for sale right now. Over the last couple of weeks I've been blowing out everything to raise cash for the Long Beach show. I do have about 700 coins working the way through the system.

So, wildjag, you still want German stuff, eh?

I don't have any German State material and there are no big guns, but I do have quite a bit of German stuff. I'll list it if you like.

I always want German stuff. But German states is about all I collect that goes into my collection. I have begun to concentrate on a few cities (Hannover, Westphalia, Brunswick-L-C-H), instead of collecting everything lol. I still dabble in US modern stuff, but they will be sold off sooner or later to buy more German coins image
