Vinyl Flips

I know vinyl flips now cause hazing on proof coins but what about MS regular business strike coins. Will the vinyl flips cause damage to these type of coins too. Why do coin suppliers sell these if they can damage the coins? I sent in a proof 1957 Lincoln to PCGS about a month ago which had no hazing on it but I put it in a vinyl flip not knowing that they cause hazing and it made only a PF 65 Cameo I will get the coin back tommorow to see if it has hazing on it. If it there is hazing I will resubmit the coin (cleaning with acetone)-trying my first crack out. How much does hazing lower the grade value on a coin? one or two points? Lot of questions I know but any help would be appreciated. Don't know if I should throw away my vinyl flips if I use them only for MS coins. From now on I will only submit and store in mylar flips. This forum has been a big help for us newbies. Thanks everyone.

<< <i>NO -- do not use poly bags. As a newbie, I followed PCGS advice and submitted proofs in poly bags ... they hazed horribly. PCGS later warned NOT to submit proofs in poly bags ... submit your coins in mylar flips ONLY. >>
That's right ANACS does say to use mylar flips for proofs.I'm just thinking of non proof coins!

Guess who bugged the hell out of them, including providing testing results, in order to finally get that recommendation.

<< <i>Does PCGS have a problem with 2X2's and staples? I sort of assumed that they wanted stuff submitted in a way that they could have easy access with essentially no risk of damaging the coin on exit. It seems like the implication of this thread is to use standard 2X2 mounts with staples....true? >>
False. PCGS does not recommend 2x2 flips for these reasons...
- there's a chance the staple could scratch the coin upon opening it
- the exisitance of carboard fibers from the holder could come into contact with the coin and react with it
- the metal of the staples could cause a chemical reaction with the coin
- and the #1 reason... it's a pain in the arse for PCGS, or any other TPG to open them, especially in bulk

piece of adhesive tape:

The tape easily breaks open so they can get the coin out. No staples
and no PVC.

<< <i>You can buy the mylar flips at PCGS. 6.50 for 50 I think. and 10% off if you are a gold or platinum member. Someone else posted before about a another coin supplier just recently in past week but cant remember the name of the company. >>
The name of the pace is JP's Corner.
