Holy Cow! Winning Pretty Coins Are Getting Competitive (and, Expensive!)

braddickbraddick Posts: 23,975 ✭✭✭✭✭
I placed 27 bids in today's Teletrade auction and didn't win any of them!

It wasn't like I was being cheap, mostly either. Usually I'll throw up low bids with some healthy ones and I'll walk away with a 20%=40% success rate. Not tonight!

ZERO for 27!
Here's one I really wanted too:

Anyone else noticing the rise in difficulty?

I was chasing a coin tonight on Ebay that should have stopped at $210, and I didn't have time to watch so I bid $240 planning to buy it. One newbie kept bumping in $10 increments. When I got home, there was about 20 minutes left, so I boosted him to $60 over PCGS priceguide and let him win. image Perfect lame duck act, I laid my last "snipe" with 45 seconds left and watched him bid twice in the last few seconds. image

OK, I feel better now. image

Wonder how many of the teletrade coins actually sold though. I've tracked a few colorful dimes on tele and bid what I felt was a pretty strong amount only to come short and then see the same coin listed a week later. One coin in particuliar was auctioned five times before I didn't see it again. I've pretty much given up on their auctions can't even find anything to use my $25 certificate from them on.
  • You sure sniped this succa from me tonight on the bay! image

Hey, I had some extra "Teletrade" coin money to spend! image

It is funny though how the coin shot up and all based on a fuzzy picture!

$589 for that coin with that picture? I've got to second guess spending the money to get accurate images. Maybe I ought to go back to shooting coins with my four year old Toshiba camera.
