Bought it in 2001, it was one of those coins I had dreamed of owning since about 1969, only took 32 years of dreaming to get one.
I feel happy with it, but I don't have an overwhelming urge to get another. I can't say that won't change, but for the time being I'd just as soon spend $$$s on 18th and 19th century type in EF/AU/MS grades.
If I spend large $$$s on another Lincoln, it will be a 1922(plain) or a 1955/1955 before it's a higher grade s-vdb.
I'm not knocking the s-vdb, I think it's one of those coins which every new collector finds out about early and dreams about often. It's a great feeling to put a chackmark in the mental catalog for that one. But for me, it's done.
I felt equally as much fun, if not more fun getting a G-4 01-s quarter, VG-10 1896-s quarter and VG-10 1913-s quarter. Perhaps it's the feeling of accomplishment that goes along with a coin that is not only valuable, but also somewhat difficult to obtain. The s-vdb is valuable, but can't be considered difficult to obtain (except for that money thing).
<< <i>Owned a F12 uncertified. Sold it for 700 just recently. >>
Geeze, maybe it's time to unload mine. I have a EF45 that I picked up for 525 a couple years ago. Had the opportunity for an AU55 at the same price but I had some difficulty making the decision and ended up waiting too long and had to "settle" for the EF45. Looks like they have moved up substantially.

Yes indeed...
If you would like I can give you a return on that investment.... I will give you the $525 plus 2% interest compounded continiously for all the years you owned it.

Technically yes, but what's the differnce?
Of course, that could change 30 years from now...

The one in my "boyhood" Lincoln set is a VF with ANACS papers. Given the current standards of grading I would not be surprised if it made EF-40 when I send it in for a slab.
I bought a bag of wheaties from a big dealer to break up
and sell as rolls, my friend was on disablity at the time and
asked if he could go through them for me for something to
do. He called me excitedly and said guess what I found.
I could not beleive it but it was an XF cleaned 1909-S-VDB.
Needless to say I was excited too and gave him a finders fee.
I also told the dealer I bought it from and She thought it was
great. She uses my story all the time whenevr people buy bags
off her.
Just thought you might like to hear it.

This one:
It's also the worst I've owned.

67 Red? I didn't know PCGS had any higher than 66. Who is this "man" that owns 10 BU rolls?

I was under this impression as well.
If he owns 10 BU rolls of 09-s vdb's then he should have them slabbed and sold at Auction.

PCGS-55 upgrade to PCGS-64rd upgraded to PCGS-65rd. Then sold it about a year ago.
I have recently bought and sold a few mid grade ones
Bought Raw Vf-20 PCGS graded Vf-35 sold it.
Bought a PCGS Vf-20 sold it
Bought a Raw Xf-40 PCGS graded it Xf-45 sold it.
At this time I will not buy one for my collection as they are too high. Beside they are everywhere. I wil buy them if nice for re-sale, but thats it. I wouldnt not even consider buying a high grade example any longer as the price is too high, and especially now after hearing about the 10 plus rolls still waiting to hit the market in a few years???? Thanks for that inside info Stewart! that ought to get people thinking how common they are?

<< <i>I traded my 10 rolls for 6 magic beans. >>
They were MY magic beans, which I was lucky to acquire from a group of pixies awhile back. Now I plan to drop my new 10 rolls of gem SVDBs into circulation before a major show. Keep looking, they'll turn up.
