    To me that toning looks like the Ike dollars we see that were stored in Dansco albums.

    Really nice color. Coin probably got bumped up a grade or two because of it. Looks like Dracula got a good bite out of Miss Liberty's cheek. Not keen on the horizontal contact mark between the bottom of the nose and the hair.

    I don't know how to grade these, but I'd guess that w/o the color, this coin would be in a 3 holder.

    I have a few Peace dollars with toning.

    Nothing even close to the colors on that coin.

    It is a beauty.image

    uhmmmm WOW........almost looks too good to be true.
    Family, kids, coins, sports (playing not watching), jet skiing, wakeboarding, Big Air....no one ever got hurt in the air....its the sudden stop that hurts. I hate Hurricane Sandy. I hate FEMA and i hate the blasted insurance companies.

    That's GOT to be the ugliest Peace dollar I've ever seen. I have a sandblaster that will make short life of that UGLY haze on it for a small fee!! Send it to me and I promise you won't recognize it when you get it back. That coin looks nicer than some of my Binion rainbow toned Mograns! Congratulations on that fantastic catch!!! Rayimageimage

    Thanks all for the FUN comments, which is where I bought this moose BTW! Found it in a flip at a dealer's table. Then crossed my fingers on the walk through service with NGC at the show...came back a better grade than I hoped!

    How long do you bake a coin to get it to look like that?

    I see no problem with the coin grading at 65. The reeding mark on the forehead seems the most distracting of the hits, and I'd have to guess that there is ample luster remaining on the coin (difficult to tell, as the photo is obviously trying to catch the "star quality" of the coin), and that the reverse is not seriously impaired in any way.

    I'd guess that without the color there wouldn't be a star after the number 65.

    Great coin Doug.

    BTW, were your fingers crossed not only for the grade, but in fear of a BB?

    Zenny - absolutely concerned about a bodybag...I have never seen such Morgan-like toning on a Peace. I knew it was NT for a Morgan but since Peace dollars rarely tone in that fashion, I had to wonder what TPGs would do/think! I'm glad they saw it the same way I did. image

    The color looks fine to me and I'm with Stman -- looks like Dansco toning you see on some clads.

    As for a 65 -- well, no, but it is a * without question. Nice score --- BTW -- I need a 23 * if it's for sale.

    I was going to say almost exactly this.

    Even still, that coin is gorgeous. I've not seen a peace dollar like that for some time.
