Old slab or fake/tampered?

First, I have read thread:

http://forums.collectors.com/messageview.cfm?catid=26&threadid=222533

Great thread! It seems from this thread that it is possible that a coin and its slab that I bought recently are authentic as there was a two month or so period of time when PCGS slabs looked this way. I would love a second opinion.

The attached pictures show the coin in question (the MS63 on the left of each picture) beside one I do not question (the MS62 on the right of each picture). The sides of the slab in question have lots of bubbles and air at the seams (not shown). Is it possible that the slab is genuine but the coin has been swapped with the slab resealed?

The serial numbers do indeed match the coins and grades stated.

Thanks.

  • Were their fake slabs in these type of holder? I thought the problem stopped after the hologram was added. Also, the two examples you posted aren't worth tampering with the slab. They sell for a little over the gold spot price. I will take a wild guess and say you have a real slab.
  • Both slabs look good to me.

It is possible but with those type of slabs its HIGHLY unlikely.

    No.

The slab looks fine to me.

  • Good points everyone. I just hadn't encountered that particular style slab yet and it had me concerned.

I really appreciate your time and consideration. This is a valuable forum.
