Ouch!

I bought a complete set of raw Mercury dimes from my local dealer. I sent in the 1916-D, the 1921's, and the 1941/2 for grading.

2 21887166 1921 10C USA Cleaning
3 21887167 1921-D 10C USA Cleaning
4 21887168 1942/1 10C USA Cleaning

Looks like the set will go back to the dealer (he is great about accepting returns that don't fly at PCGS).

I think I will stay with Jeffersons for now.

If that is the case you would think he would know how to grade and not sell cleaned coins.

It stinks that you are out those grading fees. It's cool that you can at least return the coins.

You should post some pics if possible and see if forums members can point out the signs of cleaning on them. I'd sure like to see more examples of what to look out for when buying raw. My guess is you would too. image

I was fooled by the coins too. I think they were cleaned a long time ago. Of course, I'm no expert on silver.

I'll post pictures when I get them back. I would love to learn from the experts here.
