Help! Advice on selling my SLUs and BB memorabilia

Hi everyone. I'm a new member and have a couple of questions.

1) I have about 50 Starting Lineup baseball, FB and Basketball (88-91) that I'd like to turn into cash to pay off my college loans. Sold a few on Ebay, but I know the market for them is down. Is Ebay the best way to go?

2) Also, I have a ton of cards and memorabilia - general sets, Highlights/Kmart sets, desert storm cards, lots of McGwire nontraditional (like Mother's Cookies) cards, autographs, etc. Do these sell at all over Ebay, and do you have any advice? Not sure if buying a table at a show or going to a dealer would be more cost-efficient or more of a hassle.

Your response is much appreciated,

    Carlo-

There was a thread about SLU's earlier today that might help you out. You're right, ebay is by far the best way to go. You will get the most money with (for the most part) the fewest headaches. For an idea of what your stuff might bring, try doing searches of completed auctions for similar stuff. As far as any Nolan Ryan cards or memorabilia, this board can be an asset in itself, starting with yours truly.

    Welcome to the boards-

And as far as paying off your college loans with memorabilia from that era, unless you mean the loans for your books and beer money, it will not even be close. And it will probably cover most of the beer and about 3 of the thick books.
  • Thanks for the reply. I'm hoping that they will pay for my first 10 minutes of astronomy class.
I'm going to start putting my SLUs on Ebay tomorrow. Drop me a line if anyone is interested

Any suggestions on the reserve I should put on the 1988 Nolan Ryan, 1988 McGwire, or 90-91 Aikman, Emmit Smith, or Deion Sanders SLUs?

This is a great forum and I'll be picking asking for more advice again soon. Gracias!

  • Do you have a 1989 Tony Gwynn SLU?

    Thank you,

  • When you say Desert Storm cards, do you mean Desert Shield Baseball? If so do you have a Tony Gwynn or Ozzie Smith?

    Thanks,

  • Carlo:
If you look at Tuff Stuff magazine, they have a good section on SLU's,and McFarlene's. There are a few dealers that buy these. I think prices on Ebay are pretty low right now.
  • Thanks for all the suggestions everyone! I don't have a Tony Gwynn SLU, and I have yet to dig out the desert storm cards (I don't think they had players on them.....)

I'm putting all my SLU's on Ebay right now. My seller name is cacapua. Thanks!
