Will PCGS leave my coin in the old slab for me?

Hello all,
I am getting ready to submit some coins for upgrades. I have several coins in the 1st and 2nd generation holders that are going in. They all have a great shot at upgrading. The reason I hadn't sent them in earlier is because I really like the old slabs. The values on some have swayed me into trying for the extra point.
Now, if the coin doesn't make the higher grade, how do I get PCGS to leave the coin in the old slab? Do I put down the higher grade as the minimum?
Thanks,
Randy

Regrades are cracked out and returned in new holders with new grading labels. If you are sending a coin in for regrade, there is no need to put a minimum grade on the invoice - it will serve no practical purpose.
coin out of the slab for any regrading. Kiss the old slab goodbye.
But... and I found this out recently, they will assign it a special number
which begins with 0. But all that indicates is that the coin has been
resubmitted in the past.

PCGS does automatically crack out unless otherwise requested.
I sent a few 1st gen PCGS coins in and gave specific instructions NOT to crack out unless it was an upgrade. My coins were returned...two upgraded and four still in the original holders.

<< <i>If this means alot to you, I suggest you (1) contact customer service and get someone there who will "babysit" the submission for you. (2) Then send the coins directly to that person with the very specific instructions. Don't try to short cut it. Spend whatever it costs to get the results the way you want them. If you are not very careful and very specific, you may find that all your coins will be in the blue holders even if they don't upgrade. JMHO. Steve >>
Babysitting the coins is not going to do anything. What you are trying to do against PCGS standard policy. The slab will get cracked no matter how specific you are. Thats their rules.

However, in his post (2 above yours), Outhaul/Bob indicated that he was able to defy the odds. So we must consider the distinct possibility that we were at least partly mistaken

<< <i>I don't think asking for them not to crack it will ensure that it won't get cracked. Its a gamble then if some people were able to do it. Something to keep in mind crazy4coins in case you do submit. >>
So, we agree again.

This is getting scary

Notes or baby sitting requests will not guarantee this will not happen. So if you do choose to do this, please expect your coin to be removed from the holder prior to going in to grading. Also, please be aware that the minimum grade for regrade service is the current grade on the holder. You can not request a grader higher than is currently on the holder.
