Your U S Mint Shopping List for '05?

Let's see what we are buying this year...For me, the following:

Bison Nickel 2 Roll Set
Proof Set
Silver Proof Set
SAE Sil. Proof
Bison Ocean in View 2 Roll Set

I'm kinda getting to be a fan of the new issues from the mint, particularly the nickel series. I buy dupes of proof set and the new nickel rolls for gifts during the year and they are a big hit. You could spend a lot more money and get a lot less enthusiasm from the receipients.

What are you going to buy?

I am usually not a fan of US Mint products but I want to get the 2005 nickels. The designs are fantastic. Some Sacs may be in my future as well.

Just the silver proof set. Other than that, I can't really get into the modern stuff. Much too young. image

  • The usual: Two clad proof sets, two mint sets, one silver proof set, and a proof Silver American Eagle.

Since my two favorite states, California and Oregon are represented on state quarters this year, and since I like the nickel designs, I'm also looking to purchase some rolls or first day covers.

  • I'm not quite sure yet. If the card table continues to treat me as nicely as it has thus far this year, I may pick up a half-ounce platinum proof coin. I do need to get myself the Roosevelt P, D, Proof, and Silver Proof issues this year.
I collect the elements on the periodic table, and some coins. I have a complete Roosevelt set, and am putting together a set of coins from 1880.
  • well lesse - I got some of the WJ nickel/medal sets/sold all but one.
Got my P/D Sac rolls in today. Waiting for a bag of WI qrtrs. which is lost in OK for 10 days. Also will get all WJ and Bison, WWV, Uncirc. and both silver sets, WJ coin set, and probably some Marine Corps, maybe some Calis, and maybe the quarter silver proofs.
  • State Quarters Silver Proof Set

    SAE Silver Proof

    Silver Proof Set

    Marine Corps 230th Anniversary

And anything else that may strike my fancy. image

  • Why the avoidance of U.S. Mint products?
  • PrethenPrethen Posts: 3,452 ✭✭✭
    Over-priced & Over-hyped

    ...compared to the older stuff...Over-minted

    and, did I say, OVER-PRICED?

I buy the same every year. About 10 uncirc and ten proof sets to give for Christmas Presents. I'm trying to build interest in coin collecting to friends and relatives so when they inherit mine they won't take it to a bank for just change.

I buy silver proof sets for the Grandkids every year. They seem to like those more than anything else.

    2 Mint Bags
    2 Kennedy Roll Sets
    1 Sac Roll Set
    Silver Proof Sets
Marine Corps 230 (These I think have tremendous upside potential)
    Nickel Rolls
Give Blood (Red Bags) & Platelets (Yellow Bags)!
  • Silver proof set. Maybe. I'm beginning to lose interest in the hobby due to all the hype and outrageous prices for coins.
