Skinny Dipping

I have another question for the experienced and wise posters of this forum! How do the third party graders tell if a coin has been dipped? Do they look for pitting? What power magnification do they use? Will they automatically bodybag something dipped?

Thanks!

I think the biggest concern should be when a coin gets "over-dipped". Dull white areas appear in the high spots and the coin looks absolutely trashed. A common coin to spot this on is the 40% clad Kennedies IMO. I've got a bunch of them that are just doo-doo. They've been dipped so many times that they're probably 35% clad Kennedies by now!
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    The name is LEE!
  • Smell the coin. A lot of times you can still smell the jeweluster even after it has been rinsed well. If it was one quick dip and the coin looks fine the chance of a bodybag is slim. If it has been dipped numerous times and is obvious it will get bagged every time.

If you can smell the dip, the coin has not been properly neutralized.
