Although I don't own any (if I were to buy gold, I'd probably go for type gold), I did get some to photograph... I just love the look of them!

I love modern gold!!!image Many of the coins are very attractive, and the prices are really low high grade pieces. Where else can you get a beautiful Proof U.S. gold coin for $ 120.00? I find it amazing that these coins are viewed by so many people as a glut on the market.

I know some people think that I don't like modern material. My only objection to it is when the high prices seem to be unjustified. I've been collecting the modern commemorative gold coins in the cherrywood boxes. They look really classy, and the coins look like little gems when they are housed in them.

I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

  • I love the 1986 to 1991 $50 gold eagle in PF70 and will buy them if the price is fair. I think only the

1907 etc and the 1907 high relief are better looking. I'm talking about looks only as I collect other coins

While I rarely chime in on modern coin threads, I agree completely with Jeremy and really like "modern" proof gold coins, especially when they look like this image :

  • I can't complain about gold. I've got a proof 1/4 oz Eagle and it is so nice to see the frosted gold contrasting with the gold mirror. I also have some UNC modern gold, and a nice 1880 $5 gold piece. I also have a bunch of gold bars and ingots and nuggets and Maple Leafs. Heh. Now that I think about it, I've got a good amount of gold. image
I collect the elements on the periodic table, and some coins. I have a complete Roosevelt set, and am putting together a set of coins from 1880.

Since proofs aren't made for circulation the mint should make them in ultra high relief. That would be awesome!

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

Nice thought but the striking costs and bother would be awful. The 1907 High Relief $20 gold had to be struck three times to bring up the detail. After the first two strikes the coins had to be heated (annealed). All of this would drive up the cost of the coins to levels much higher than it is today.
