eBay sellers: Returns policy question

Is it cool or uncool to require the buyer to pay the eBay seller fees if a coin is returned? I've seen at least one instance where the return policy states that if a coin is returned, the amount returned will be the amount paid by the buyer minus any shipping charges and eBay fees. I'm a little ambivalent about this. If the description is decent and the picture is decent and the buyer still decides to return the coin...well, maybe the seller shouldn't be penalized for selling it to someone who changed their mind.

I don't like that. If a coin is returned you can file a form with eBay and get your final value fee returned. So you are only out the listing fee. If you start at 1 cent and don't have a reserve the listing fee is very small. I state buyers need to cover postage costs but I actually have paid all postage costs for the very few returns I've had.

Not a good policy imo.....EBAY refunds all of the final auction fee so the only thing the seller is stuck with is the listing fee which is imo a part of doing biz on the BAY. My vote....."uncool".....

Oh, I wasn't aware of eBay's policy of refunding the final value fee. If that's the case, there seems to be very little reason (unless perhaps you have a massive reserve fee) to be concerned about this as a seller (just swallow the cost).

And if you relist the coin after the return (and it sells), E-Bay will refund the listing fee too, so you're really only out S&H.

So when you return the coin you make sure you point out to the seller that he will get his final value fees back from eBay and that if he relists and sells he will get his listing fee back as well, so he is welcome to deduct his eBay fees of ZERO from your refund. Or at most his listing fee.
