When did NGC use clear plastic inserts around the coin?

I just came upon this auction that has a NGC graded coin that has a clear insert around the coin instead of the white plastic. I have never saw a slab like this so I was wondering when they did this.

NGC did start using those holders when they started slabbed California Fractionals in the past year.

You should note that they are, in all cases, very small gold coins.

I suspect that NGC is investogating this concept very seriously.

I happen to like it more than the all white holder.

I have to agree with you. I think the clear insert is alot better then the white ones that they use.

Oreville is right. They use it in the normal slabs for very small coins and in the multi-holder slabs.

I like the clear inserts also. I have a multi-holder one- 2003 NGC Proof 70 Gold Eagle Set. I hope they switch.

I don't like it. I mean, I do, but they should make the entire slab clear instead of just part of it. It looks halfarsed the way it is now.

I hope that use them on more coins and not just the small ones.

I saw some with fractional gold in them. I don't like them. But I never liked the slab style of NGC anyway.
