I was doing some research on the Jefferson series and toning. During my research I came upon a few post's about "Marty Hoard" coins. JB or Marty is this one of them? Anyone have any updates on how PCGS feels about these coins? Thanks for any help provided! Lee

The toning looks too real to be a Marty Hoard nickel.

Looks like a Marty Hoard coin to me. Last I heard PCGS and NGC would not certify any more of them. I got one certified, I should have sent in many. The next time I tried they got bagged.

i currently have a 1962 Proof Jefferson at PCGS on a Modern submission. it came from one of the same sources but wasn't toned the even color like the Marty Hoard coins had, it was different colors in the fields and across the devices. i also have a couple BB'd toners given to me by one of the bakers about a year ago. they were in polybags so they may have already taken a trip out west.

my hunch is that this 1957 is one of the coins jbstevens was left holding in late-2003 when the music stopped and the buyers wised up.

There is no real reason sometimes to what people slab and at what level.

I was Long Beach when I first saw these on the market. A dealer was asking $450 for them. I offered to sell him some raw ones. He said no, I would have to get them in a holder first. Perhaps someone else took him up on the offer?

That's not a show grade cert. I've made 901's on economy and regular submissions.
