OKay, I know many of you have seen coins for sale on HSN or America's store. com but lastnight was the first time I had ever really watched. My wife pointed out to me an we sat there and watched what they were selling. As far as I could see there was a lot of over priced stuff. The catch word the two gentlemen used alot was "gem BU" and while many of the coins did have nice luster they were no gems. Many had terrible scratches, bag marks and fingerprints on many of the coins. Some of the "key" items were 10 Morgan dollars for $499 from 1878-1921 that were in fact nice and bright with nice luster but had terrible scratches and bag marks. At one point one of the gentlemen stated that these morgans could go at least MS63. I dare say that most of the ones they were showing would never have made MS60. Then there was the full roll of 1964 silver Kennedy halves in GEM BU condition. Again, with nice luster and maybe worth melt.
The big deals of the night were the Lance Armstrong autographed PCGS MS69 2004 silver eagle and the 5 proof state quarters autographed by the artists in ICG PR69DCAM slabs. Other highlights were a collection of SBA dollars which included every year and the proofs ( except the varities). Many of the proofs had plenty of haze and the business strikes dinged up in the face area. There was a short set of walking lib halves from the WWII years in a dansco album, a set of Frankies in a dansco album, a collection of proof sets from 1958-1971 ( if I remember correctly), St. Gaudens $20 gold pieces, a $5 gold eagle ICG MS70 and a collection of state quarters from 1999 to present. In this collection you got all the state quarters in the regular issue plus a collection covered in 7 layers of 24ct gold and collection covered in platinum plus a 2005 silver eagle.
Anyway, I thought that the prices they were asking were a bit steep for some of the coins they were pushing. As I said I have never been to HSN but I wanted to see what was to be had in their coin sale.

$119 and some change.
How'd the mint do that ???
Box of 20
When I first started collecting, I liked watching the show mainly cause I liked looking at coins. When I saw them selling the 1986-2004 MS 69 ASE for 899.99, I nearly died. They are the absolute scum of the earth.
