Owning a fraction of a coin

I read that Kagin owns 25% of one of the Brasher coins that recently sold. Has anyone ever owned a coin in partnership with another person? I am curious as to whether there is a written agreement (I hope so), and what rights the minority owner has with respect to the subsequent sale of that coin (for example does the minority owner have a right of first refusal, etc.)? I would be interesting to know how others have structured their deals, and if anyone knows the specifics of this deal, I would be interested to hear. PS. I doubt that Kagin has many rights; do you think the minority owners of the Yankees tell George Steinbrenner what do to?

I can't answer any of your specific questions about joint ownership deals, but I know that some coin dealer co-invest in more expensive coins all the time. It's even reached the point at my table where two dealers I know were buying a coin a cash split the payment right in front of me. One paid me half the money; the other paid the other half.

I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Boiler and I split a coin once - he was going to own 50% and I was going to "store" the coin for the partnership......it was after a few beers at the Baltimore ANA and there was nothing in writing.....after we woke up, the deal was restructured. image
