Poll: Do you guys think I'm crazy??

I love all sorts of US coins, but now I will get the following:

-1994-P Roosevelt Dime PCGS MS67FB (pop 16/1)-Gift from board member onlyroosies
-2000-P Roosevelt Dime PCGS MS68FB (pop 329/0)

I like the coins, especially in high grade. I don't want to make a profit, just have fun with collecting these grades....

Do you guys think I'm crazy by starting this series??

Dennis

PS I don't spend Roosies, I live in the Netherlandsimage

Collectors can collect anything they like so long as the government says that it's legal to own it.

The coins that you like would not be my thing, but each to their own. Who knows many they will catch on, you will make money from them.

I've collected 19th century presidential campaign tokens and medalets for years. For a long time I figured that I was throwing most of my money away. The political collectors did not like numismatic related items, and coin collectors took little interest in them. But recently these pieces have attracted a following, and prices have rising as a result.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

This will be a lot of fun. Even though I prefer raw coins the pops now are mature enough
that they should give a pretty good picture of what's out there. This means prices should
be fairly "accurate" across the board. Since there is still little demand the orices will also be
very low compared to other series.

Don't forget that the FB/ FT's haven't been graded as long and the pops on these may not
be quite as representative as the other pops.

Modern crap.image But then, why would you care about what I, or others think? You heard before, " collect what you like ".

Go ahead and collect what you want, but asking about it here is just crazy.

Dennis- Collect what you like. All coin collectors are "crazy" if you really think about it, spending big bucks to "rent" coins for a relatively short time.image

  • Crazy yes. We're all crazy! Roosies seem a bit slack in potential though. But this series is not as widely sought after which could be very good. The only Roosies I own are in proof sets but I thought of collecting clads too.

There are several reasons why I choose this set, but the most important is the years they were and are issued. I like everything from days gone by. For example, my room is in complete 70's style. The early 90's where when I grew up, and where I got my first memories. So these are very special for personal reasons. And then to own the "nearly finest or finest certified" adds something more. I'm sure this set will bring back memories, the good and the bad...image

  • I voted NO with another reason than potential for the future. When I read the results it sounds like we agree. If you like the coins they by all means go for them. They can be a challenge in fully struck high grades.

If you said you expect to make money and think buying high grade modern dimes is a great investment I would have a bit of an argument. First you can't predict the future. Second people have tended to prefer larger coins like Dollars and Double Eagles.
  • I voted no other because Roosevelts need love to.

Collect what you like. These roosies would be near the bottom of the list of what I would collect (for enjoyment or investment), but collecting is a personal thing. If you enjoy it, you are doing it right.

You should collect whatever interests you. I don't like those coins, but who am I to say what to collect?

  • No, of course not. Collect whatever the heck you want to collect!

I don't care for the series, but should be an economical series to go after.

Of course you're crazy...not for collecting clad Roosies, but for starting ANY registry set.image

Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.
  • Yes (other)....I'm just not a big registry fan

You could probably build a great set of clad Roosies, and not have to pay the "slab premium" for the coins.

I agree. If you'll enjoy putting the set together, more power to you.
  • I think Heritage has something in their buyer's contract that requires you to be "crazy" but I'm not sure... it's sure an economical set to complete in high grade and if that's what you like then go for it! image

No- possibly because of future potential. Also, no, because nobody's crazy to collect what they like.
