    Hey John-

I drove over the John Basilone memorial bridge a while back. Baltimore? LA? Somewheres.

    John

Its good to see you back. So you are going retail only this year? I think all of us should keep opening hobby boxes until one of us
hits a cut sig 1/1! Then we can all chase red sigs out of the retail.

Knopfler...So you are telling us you pulled multiple Helton's? I didn't get one and I opened at least 3 cases worth. My only one
    came from a trade.

Anyone care to take a guess on the mystery signer?? Keep
in mind they do have Bonds and Arod under contract, and that would make an excellent bonus, but if its a team legend doesn't
it have to be a retired players? Hmmm I may email topps now.

Yes..I will probably do retail only this year. Unless I buy a hobby box or two from eBay.
  • KnopflerKnopfler Posts: 783 ✭✭✭
    Joe,

I pulled at least three purple Helton's, maybe four. I did buy quite a few retail boxes, probably around 30-40. I got one auto, and it was in the second or third box that I bought. It was a Lou Limmer auto. Didn't buy any hobby this year, but I did order a few hobby boxes for this year.

Say hello to Stalin's best friend!

BTW, the commons appear to be regional also - not evenly distributed. You can open two cases and be short a few!!!

    Kevin
I'll be more than happy to pull a limited Bonds!

I have never pulled a 1/1 anything in my pack ripping life! Will this my year?

We should decide on a "Heritage nitefest" - where everyone can report their best pulls!

    John

Welcome back!! Can anyone believe it's already been one year?

To those who are interested....if you have a shop near your house, hit them right away before they raise the price.

February Tuff Stuff has the 2004 Heritage set listed as #2 in sales and popularity right now! Enuff said about that.

  • Thanks to Kuhlmann I am in as well. Also thanks to Kevin (JoeStalin) for the 411 on where to get in on the action. I don't think I can wait 2 weeks, I will have to scour the local area to see if there any of those miniboxes left over from last year.

    Data
I'll be surprised - the set was very popular and everytime the boxes were put on the shelf, they were snatched up.
People were known to hide the boxes if they didn't have the money on hand or credit card.

With the 05 product, It doesn't hurt to go ask the manager when they stock their shelves. Sometimes, it's still laying in the back and hasn't been broken yet.

Again I really think hobby boxes are better if you can get them for around 60. Once they get higher then switch to retail. Don't be afraid
to hide the packs when you find them, this keeps the pack searchers off them. The pillow section works best. You can pretty much put stuff
anywhere at Kmart and its safe. Target cleans up often so make sure you find a place behind the shelves. I can't tell you how disgusting
the smell of heritage packs after the pack feeler gets them. He bends cards too. I save my damaged 04 cards so I can gorilla glue them to
    the pack searchers car.

Griffins...so you have a case on order??
  • mudflap02mudflap02 Posts: 2,060 ✭✭
You guys better stay online - I have a case of heritage fever, and my neighbor just picked me up a box of retail bowman heritage at walmart. Live break in 10 minutes.
  • mudflap02mudflap02 Posts: 2,060 ✭✭
I know bowman isn't the same, but it's all they had. And JS - isn't it time for a new, smaller signature? I dont want to be looking at McNabb for the next 6 months, sucking face or not.
  • blowoutcards.com still has 05 RETAIL cases available for less than a hobby case (400 bucks last i looked). i have one of each (retail & hobby) on order i'm curious to see how the 2 compare. i usualy get 2 cases each year but this will be the first year i'm breaking retail.

does anyone have any indication or speculation what the variations will be this year. grey back & white backs? i'm not to excited with that idea, i loved the pose variations from last years set.i believe this will be the first year for team cards. whatever the case there are always nice surprises.

    Highend
That's the beauty of the set - all of the little things that make it up - plus it is attainable. As you read the cards you will see little things that make them interesting - like the regular issue Jones has him as Lawrence but on the SP they also give his nickname "Chipper" - and there are lots of little things like this!

For a few months people will be sick of hearing about Heritage, but no me or JoeStalin!
    Let the good times roll!

don't forget about boomer wells and it will be great to have Bonds back in the set....maybe topps will make an 04
heritage update card of Bonds to fill in the 04 hole.

Topps did make an 04 Bonds card to udate the regular issue - supposedly you get one free when you buy a pack of 05 Topps regular issue at a card shop. Great to see that people will be able to get this card, and also that it will remain pretty much valueless. Bonds was in the 04 Bowman Heritage set, so maybe they will do it for 04 Topps as well - like a modern day Lajoie card.

Retail Bowman Heritage box las night wasn't top bad - $20 for 8 packs, pulled 4 SPs (Soriano, Grienke, Ray Liotta, and the Alex Gonzalez Marlins error) as well as a Zito jersey. One of the neat things about this set that I didn't realize was that seeded one per hobby case was a redemption card for a custom MJ Roop binder for the set, which looks like they're going for about 5 bucks or so on the bay. Beautiful set as well. Anybody know if the redemption binder comes with pages or if it's just the binder?
  • whats a reasonable price for a 03 topps heritage hobby box? Same question goes for an 02 heritage hobby box.

    thanks
  • I've got 6 boxes of Hobby. Just out of curiosity, if it is a regional distribution, where is everyone from? Do we have the country covered? I'm in Lexington, Ky.

  • Hey,

05 Heritage already....oh crapola....I still need to finish my 04 set! If anyone has base to sell/trade, please drop me an e-mail. Need about 60 and then will start working on the SPs that I have left to get. Thanks.

    Ken!!

Great to see you back. Its never too late to finish up old business. Post a list sometime and we will see what we can do. Its great to have
another great trader on here....so what are you buying..4..5 cases?? LOL Just make sure you save the autographs for me.

    Kevin
  • if it is a regional distribution, where is everyone from?

I think the better question is where are you getting your product from? The retail may be regional, but I think the hobby will not be.

now, is everyone going to wait and have a group open party? Maybe we could save one box each and have this. Maybe we could put together a master
list as we go keeping track of all the pulls. Ive contated Mr Laurshi over at topps ...maybe we can get a little publlicity going.

This is going to be great!

    For the new guys
I have been getting some questions about the Chrome parallel set.
Last year the set had 110 cards (stars, RC's) and is in three tiers:

    1. Black bordered Chromes - total of only #/56.
    2. Refractor Chromes - total of only #/556
    3. Chromes - total of only #/1956

Obviously, the lowest tier has the best probability of completion without starting to cost ya. If anyone doesn't want to collect the lowest tier, I would love to trade for them.
Kevin will drudge up a "fair" trade equivalent list for chrome for SP's etc.

    Kevin
Did we trade SP's one for one without regard to value?

If anyone has any 2001 Topps Heritage base cards, please see my thread on the Buy, Sell, Trade forum.
I need three base cards, and can either trade or buy.
    Thanks,
    James
I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.

  • For those of you that are getting a case or more, are you keeping any boxes sealed? That bright yellow box full of possibilities, 24 to be exact, it has to be mighty tempting to rip them all open. I don't know if I have the ability to leave a single pack sealed.

So it the meantime I have a box of 03 and 04 Topps Heritage coming for early next week. I will let you know if anything exciting comes of it.

  • I agree just pick a time and place and I will try my best to be there.. If not I may do a bust on the forum or something.
