Did anyone here know that Andre Dawson or any other ball player collects or collected coins?

Not to rain on your parade, but why would anyone care if atheletes collected coins? I'm assuming that they're normal people akin to you or I. Does just the fact that they owned a collectable at one point actually increase its value with baseball fans such as yourself? (This is an actual question, not a 'slam')
  • I had heard about Andre Dawson...I know there have been some Morgans up for sale in the last couple years with his provenance

Don't know if he was much of a coin show/coin shop kind of collector, or whether his stuff was put together by some "advisor" for investment purposes..

I agree. Athletes, pols, TV/Movie stars, are just people like you or me. But as a baseball fan I can't help but feel a genuine interest when coins and sports collide.
  • In response:

Why do peolple care about: Elliasberg, Or any pedigreed coin.. They are just people akin to you and I ... Some do some don't ...
  • Ironically, I avoid pedigreed coins like the plague. But if a more notable player such as Derek Jeter were to collect/pedigree a coin, I would think that such a coin would have sports memorabilia value on top of its numismatic value. image
  • Can you imagine if a coin vault like sports memorabilia show got hold of Andre's collection? Just imagine how many brain cells would commit suicide if you had to listen to a CV guy AND a sports memorabilia guy talk about how rare and valuable these coins are and just how important it is to have the registered pedigree of Andre Dawson.
Varieties are the spice of a Type Set.

    Need more $$$ for coins?

You need to remember that people bid $600 on e-bay for a piece of gum spit out by Luis Gonzalez. Since this coin has Andre Dawson's name it, it has some sports memorabilia value. So I would expect some coin collecting baseball fans to want to pay a little extra for it especially if they were big Andre Dawson fan.

I'm not sure if you're being serious or just using an extreme hypothetical?
