I hadn't upgraded any coins in the dansco in a while,
but have been keeping an eye out for a nicer flying eagle cent
my current example is an 1857 in maybe EF40 or 45
I was looking for a coin with full feather detail and maybe a bit of luster.
Took a bit of searching but I finally found this coin:
what do you think it grades? it's in an ANACS slab.

By the way . . . today a fellow collector (new) emailed me a link to a "superb type set" he found on the net. I emailed him back . . . said come on in to the Boards and look at it all you want . . .it's Baley's!!!
It was . . .
DRUNNER
ANA Sec. 25 Rep
I think this coin is a nice AU all day long. I can't tell re how the luster looks on the coin, which is important. The strike is excellent on the obverse, excepting the tail feathers, which is not unusual. However, the viewer's rt. wing appears to have some wear. I've seen some Uncs. where the rt. wingtip is not fully struck, but this coin's upper right wing IMO is missing some detail due to wear.
On the reverse, the cotton near the top of the reverse wreath also appears to be flat, due to slight wear. The definition of the devices on the upper portion of the wreath on the viewer's lt. IMO is not as strong as it is on the upper wreath to the viewer's right. This analogy is a bit like the grading of Lincoln Cents re the upper portion of the reverse's wheat ears.
Other than a few spots, the surfaces appear to be nice, as they are devoid of contact marks. I also like the coin's even color.
BTW, it took me a long time to find one of theses babies that I liked.

if you tilt it just right, you can see a few hairlines
and maybe a touch of wear..
terrific strike though!

Yeah, but I have both, so I get in line before BOTH of you
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
my WAG AU-55
Since you made the rub go away, I'll give it a 62
My posts viewed times
since 8/1/6
MS62 possibly 63
Unc details net 55. I think it's in the 58-62 range overall, depending on one's eyesight, lighting, magnifyer,
and whether they're technical or market graders, etc. I'd price it as a 60 for the eye appeal. (in fact, that's what it cost)
perfect coin for an album

folks often ask, what am i doing with the old coin.
the answer is that it gets bumped down to my "B" set
(which is getting pretty nice-- all those coins used to be "A"s
the C coin (if there is one) gets sold

Lol, PaigowJohnny.
I just read “Moby Dick” and I still have Melville in my head. Methinks it sounds aright, shipmate.

Until of course everyone on this board is clued into my little test! Put your coin in your album for 10 years and it'll grade a 62 or 63.
