Question for you: If you buy an ngc, anacs or pcgs coin as "rd" and it turns "bn&quo

I love red copper but I have wondered about this....

Does anyone know?

  • PCGS: yes, any slab.

NGC: Only in the newer slabs from 2003 on I believe.

    ANACS: No.

Interesting....Why is NGC backing their later holders and not the older ones? It doesn't appear they are any better, unless they are closer to "airtight" than the old ones?

Ditto what Cameron said except to add that the NGC guarantee on lasts for 10 years after holdering. To get another 10 years, you have to resubmit it.

This is due to different management and tighter grading of copper and has nothing to do with the holder. At least not that I know of.

  • NGC is still under the same owners. No new managment.

I believe it is due solely to their newer holder and has nothing to do with "different management and tighter grading".

The bottom line is that no known holder that I'm aware of can ensure that copper wont "turn". So, both PCGS and NGC are "guaranteeing" copper with the knowledge that they will end up having to compensate some owners of copper coinage in the future.
