Take a second to compare the Aution pics and the pics of the coin after I got it. I just got the Fax back from ANACS with the grade and its a MS64 imageimageimage I'll post the pics of the coin again after I get it back.

Here is the picture given in the feebay acution. The seller stated in the auction.....

"I am not a coin dealer so grading is based on my personal opinion using an old issue(1970) of a photograde guide, so please look at the pictures, judge for yourself and bid accordingly."

I won it for $73.00.auction link

The coin arrive in packageing that was less than desirable. It was not in any type of holder but was in a piece of scrap plastic that was crudely taped closed.

I believe this coin spent most of its life in a paper coin envelope. It has plenty of luster under the heavy tone and I would grade it AU58.
Would anybody go Unc on it? To me, its a guaranteed original, never messed with.

Edited to add: The sellers says: "1921 PEACE silver dollar in EF+ condition."]

Worth MS-60 money at least, even if technically AU-58.
  • That's actually a pretty strong strike for a 1921 High relief. I think you could go 60 on this one.

  • A little cruddy, but still a very sweet coin in atleast AU58. I kinda like the look of it in a wierd, twisted, circulated-coin lover type of wayimage

We could call this on squirrel cheek. She has a mouth full of something!

I think you got a great deal. I could see that going MS62.

Looks like someone got it back in 1921, placed it in an envelope and never looked at it again. The strike is nice for a 1921 too.

huh...so THAT is what a high relief peace looks like! I admit, she is a little puffy and consequently, a little younger looking. Interesting!
  • Send it to NCS!

  • Im thinkin xf45 because of the hair, but what do i know ?

Still looks like a deal to me !

  • This is a 1921 High Relief 100proof. There is no way thats a XF-45. It is AU+/MS all day long. They have different strikes then 1922 dollars on and this one has a razor sharp strike and great luster on that dark toning.

  • Cam,

I said it was nice !

At xf 45 was it a deal ?

Technical AU-50 to me based on inability to see luster, but it may well clean up to be AU-55/AU-58. I like it.

I would buy them all day long like the pictured coin for $75.00. The "crud" mentioned by Betta is what I thought too, but its actually dark tone. None of that greasy black stuff you sometimes see.

I think it compares favorably to the PCGS MS66 in terms of strike. I still think AU58 is right but a MS return would be nice. BTW, all 1921 Peace dollars were minted in the last two weeks of Dec. 1921. It can be difficult to distinguish between wear and weak strike on this coin. I prefer to look at the upper wing feathers on the reverse for grading these, which is why I hold out a small chance for MS.
  • Cam,

That coin is MS. I'll buy all the XFs that look like this that I can get my hands on, all day - every day. This is one for the buyers. Instead of buying an overgraded coin someone actually got a great deal on a rare MS high relief 1921 Peace Dollar.image Congrats.

I think you ripped itimage for comparison here is a coin I used to own NGC MS63 that had an unusual stronger strike that I have not seen a stronger one yet after on-line searching and searching for years image

Thats the best strike on a 21 I've ever seen short of a Proof.

Here's some more coins I've won from the same seller. Hopefully with the same results when I get them.

Am I the only one who thinks the color is kind of yucky?

Great strike though image. I've seen one with the same not-so-sexy colors get a 64 grade before.
