Are Heritage Auctions right for the little guys?

Little guys - wannabes - call us what you like, every once in a while we sell a collection in order to regroup. I find it amazing that Heritage takes such lousy pictures of their lots. Granted, they only have so much time to work with each coin, and of course - those which are of lesser value get the lesser attention. Still, it shouldn't take an inordinate amount of time to take a decent picture of a coin. Show me a decent picture of a coin and I'm likely to bid higher than if you show me a picture that looks like crap, but you can do mumbo-jumbo to get closeups on the computer - in the end the seller gets it in the end. Below are pictures of the one FUN show auction coin I got - the picture above was the Heritage picture - when I saw it and saw what the grade on the coin was (MS67*) I couldn't believe that the coin looked that schlocky - well I went ahead and bid on it and got the coin today - I'm very pleased with my new acquisition, but wondered how the owner felt about giving up one of his little gems, for the price that I picked it up at. I am willing to bet that the coins that went for hundreds of thousands of dollars got great pictures, and deservedly so - but do the little guys deserve such schlock?

Heritage is known for lousy pictures on their site-even ones of high dollar coins.

I think Heritage would do it sellers a greater service if they improved their images. Especially with the more common stuff where the larger bidder pool comes from the internet bidder, not the floor.
Certainly with your Roosie, there were not whole lot of floor bidders looking at that series.
Heritage should call you, offer to double your salary, relocate you to Dallas, and make you Chief of Coin Photography. I am dead serious.
As for this "wannabe" issue, I do not believe that the term was meant to be applied to "little guy" collectors. I think it is a somewhat disparaging term for "part-time" or "inexperienced" dealer. I think it is unfortunate that collectors feel that they are being dissed by Laura, a notion that is propagated by some of her detracters. Nothing could be further from the truth.

WOW! Nice dime and pic!
I plan to use the fact that Heritage's pics are poor to my advantage and pick up a few nice coins.

This is also true - I guess we just won't sell our stuff with them
<< <i>Most coins I get from Heritage look better in person!! >>
Especially when they're a different date and grade
Yes the little guy needs a break but from what I have seen it is the little collector instead of the seller that gets the break.
