Hello new to the board and have been enjoying most of the stories here. I want to post one that you may enjoy. Tonight I learned the fastest way to down grade a coin. I have been purchsing a varity of coins to study. Nothing real expensive. Anyway check the mail on the way to work and have two packages. Grabbed them and onto work I go. Opened them up and I have two nice (for me) silver dollars 1922 with a light gold tome and a 1923 that is nice clean silver (cleaned/dipped i think). As I am admiring these coins one of my co-workers comes over to see what I got. She starts asking question etc etc. i am trying to explain why some coins are worth more the others. As we are talking she pioks up the dollars for a closer look. Before I can say anything she turns one dollar on edge and starts tapping it against the other. Now I have a nice toned dollar with some very bright nicks in the face.

Ouch is right.
That would have been the ideal time for your co-worker to start collecting coins.

Welcome.
I guess you were able to give her an answer to her question. "Some coins are worth less because morons bang them together and damage the condition." Yikes.
I'll stick to showing off coins in holders thanks to this story.

Nothing wrong with blondes. She didn't know that doing that could damage the coin. He should explain to her how that can damage it.

Why step over the dollar to get to the cent? Because it's a 55DDO.

Common workplace ettiquite dictates that you should leave stuff that isn't yours alone unless specifically asked to or given permission to touch it, this goes doubly for personal possessions of your fellow co-workers.

Welcome. Yeah, you could be in luck, maybe it's a mating signal on her planet. You're supposed to show interest by keying her car.
Apropos of the coin posse/aka caca: "The longer he spoke of his honor, the tighter I held to my purse."
<< <i>I have a question, what was the reason she did that? >>
Most likely pure ignorance.
People who don't collect coins, or know anything about them, usually only think they are collectable if old....and that bouncing them, hitting them, thumbing them, etc, won't affect them or their value.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
Did you know that silver dollars make excellent projectiles when aimed at ignorant cow-orkers.
As an added benefit they also make a beautiful ringing noise when making contact with the human skull.
Happy hunting!

Afterwards I just picked up the coins and went to work. I work in a fairly busy ER so later that night, we discussed how to handle coins, what things could increase/decrease value including nicks and such. I think she understands now.
Yes she is cute but not a blonde
