How does the price of a PCGS Coin compare to a coin graded from NGS or ANACS

I bought a few raw gold coins from the Paris Coin show and I was wondering if i should send them to PCGS or ANACS
Assuming a similar grade from PCGS or ANACS How does the prices compare.
I was looking at ebay and the prices of similar coins graded by PCGS are selling higher than NGC or ANACS
Can anybody explain
thx

  • Welcome!!

Coin buyers believe that PCGS has stricter and more consistent grading standards than NGC and ANACS.
Therefore they prefer PCGS and this gives PCGS a premium over the others. Historically there is evidence
that this is true as many people will try to buy an ANACS or NGC coin and have it reholdered by PCGS:
this doesn't always work. Historically, only the best examples actually cross over into a PCGS slab. As a
collector, I prefer a PCGS coin for many reasons:

    a. stricter grading gives me a better chance of getting a nicer coin (sight unseen, or with just pictures)
    b. consistency in my collection (I will attempt to build a PCGS series of coins for my collection)
    c. better/easier resale

Having said that, an experienced collector can sometimes find a bargain in an ANACS or NGC holder which
he can be sure will cross over.

  • I am submitting these coins to ANACS then and I will have the grade up on this post.
I have not sent these $20 to PCGS I will be sending them to ANACS and we will see if they are cleaned or not
thx kiefers, you have been great help
  • You are welcome! Good luck and I look forward to seeing the grades.

  • Cameron is right on track here. If they look too good to be true they have a high probability of being fake. If they are cleaned or problems in anyway send them to ANACS for a net grade. If they areal honest gold coins send them anywhere but ANACS. Mike Faraone formerly ANACS now PCGS... told us that historically gold graded by ANACS was frequently undergraded by a point or two.

  • As a modern business strike collector, I find that PCGS coins carry the most weight and have the best sale value. People have more faith in a PCGS MS68 State Quarter than they do in an NGC and even more so for an ANACS. I'm still tossed up between PCGS and NGC for older material, but anything post-1965 is going to PCGS.

Add the word "Some" to the beginning of that sentence.

It's higher (more times than not)

Like that matters with a state quarter. If I want one, I just grab it off my dresser.
