Superior Galleries Auctions

I recently won a coin at the Superior Galleries Ft. Lauderdale Elite auction (Pre-FUN). When I picked it up they charged me $38 bucks worth of Sales Tax. I pointed out to them that there is no sales tax on rare coins in Florida. Glenn said: "Just give us a call and we'll fix it..." Well I've called three times since and recieved no response. I keep getting put on to a voice mail in their accounting department. Frustrating!

I also noticed during the auction that it seemed like every other coin had the wrong picture in their catalog. They kept announcing over and over "Lot # such and such has the wrong photo the correct phot is with lot such and such." Not exactly confidence inspiring.

I know $38 isn't alot of money but,... it should still be MY money. image

Anybody have dealings with them? Will they ever fix this?

I have had pretty good luck with them- although when I paid for a lot at the last auction the lady sounded pre-occupied and I called a few days later to confirm my order. I presume they are very busy right after the auction. Maybe get a few names and make a complaint? By the way I got my coin on Saturday and everything was fine. mike

I have only dealt with Superior twice.

I didn't have any problems either time with the transaction.

Best of luck sorting it all out.

In Florida, I think coin purchases under $1,000 are taxable????

I once bought a coin from them and it was terrible. I sent it back.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

I think there's only tax of Foreign coins... Any coins that are legal tender in the US are Non-Taxable... Foreign coins where money is exchanged at higher than current exchange rates is taxable, bullion is also taxable (But not, that since AGEs are Legal Tender, they are not taxable)

  • Oh, and if the sales in a single transaction of foreign coins or bullion is over $500 it is also exempt, but not together... image A $250 ingot, and a $250 foreign coin, are still taxable...

You are exactly right on. This is Florida Law.

I've won a few online auctions from them without problem. My only complaint (and it's a minor issue) is that they are slow.
