Is it proper to return a PCGS graded coin if you are not happy with it?

I bought a PCGS coin on ebay. 1909 VDB MS66RD. I paid a fair price for it, via auction. Upon receiving the coin, the lower reverse rim is very damaged near the location of the VDB and only the top half of the VDB is even visible. It certainly would not be readable if you did not know what the initials were.

Even though the PCGS Label says MS66, I am not happy with the coin.

Is it proper to return a PCGS coin in this situation or should I bite the bullet and pass it on to the next victim.

Are you sure it's damage on the rim rather than part of the o-ring overlapping?

Yes, as long as the seller has a return policy!

Just because a coin is in a PCGS holder, does not mean the coin is desirable. Look at Kennedy half dollars. There are lots of them in PCGS holders, yet not a single person likes them. image Return the coin if you are unhappy for any reason, assuming the seller will take it back.

Yes. By all means return it. Pcgs overgrades more often than some think. Esp on a common date like 09-vdb. They are not graded to the same standards an 09-s vdb would be graded to. Too bad.

Double check it for the O-ring like Russ said. Damage would make it very likely that PCGS would not holder it at all and certainly not as MS66.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

A return to the seller is one option. Submitting it to PCGS on their guaranty is another option. Of course, PCGS may come back with a 66, so you still wouldn't be happy with it. It it grades for less though, PCGS will make you an offer.
    I brake for ear bars.
  • The O ring is not the issue here. If you are not satisfied then you should return it if you can. PCGS, NGC or whoever. Good Luck.

Do you have a picture of this coin?

If you saw it in a dealer's case at a show and looked at it, would you buy it?

If the answer is no and the seller has a return privilege, then by all means send it back.

(Hey, that was post #1600 for me!)
    When in doubt, don't.

it depends on how the seller described it. if he described the COIN w/out disclosing damage, return it. if he described the SLAB, then your issue is w/ pcgs, & you should take up the issue w/ pcgs.
