1972 Ike Dollar varieties?

I was speaking with a gentleman in a coin shop a couple of weeks ago (I think he's on these boards, too) about 1972 Ike dollar varieties and how there's one variety in particular that is quite elusive and can be sold for some $$$. Can someone educate me on the various varieties and either display detailed scans of what to look for or point me in the right direction? The one thing I recall about this special variety is that the land masses on the small Earth are in different positions or simply non-existent (these land masses being the islands off of Florida).

Thanks!

Oops....my mistake. Yes, you're right. I edited my original message to change the year to 1972. Thanks for pointing this out.
  • joeyuk, thanks for that link. I'm considering the Ike series as well and I've been wondering the same thing.

Prethen, the Type-2 is the rare one. PCGS price guide shows $75 for T1, $500 for T2, and $50 for T3. The Heritage price guide (which I find more reliable) does not have any data on Ikes!!!image

As the article suggests Ike's are not in favor at the moment. I suspect many collectors/dealers own a T2 without realizing it. Good hunting. I hope you find one at a decent price!
