PCGS Hologram scratched

Hey, has anyone ever see a PCGS Hologram that was scratched and strated to peel? I have an older PCGS slab with the following details:

Light blue label
No bar code on the front
Bar code on the reverse...no numbers around the bar code area
PCGS Hologram on the outside of the slab...has scratches on it, and can be scratched easily...
Coin Info: 7132.64/4909478

Has this happened to anyone else out there? And if so what have you done? I wrote to HRH on the Q&A Forum...
Thinking of sending it in for Regrading, as it looks like a strong MS65
Also, would this scratching of the Hologram come under the PCGS Guarantee, as one day, it could be worn right off?

Thank you,

Gary

The holder doesn't come under any guarantee... there's a coin inside it

I've seen many. It's usually because some dumbass dealer stuck a non-removable label on there that was later peeled off.

  • It does have an apperance of a "sticker" that might have been stuck on it. More then anything, I was wondering what year this type of PCGS label might have been issued, as it is different from the others I do have. Hoping because it is an "older" slab, that it may upgrade to a MS65??

Everyone hopes that but it is no guarantee just because the slab is older.

It is a little older, but it's not from the "so-called" tight period. Besides, the type of slab it is in is irrelevant to whether or not it would upgrade. The coin is the determining factor.

  • Good point, Cameron

I understand about the no guarantee of an upgrade...but the guarantee is that it would not be downgraded. It would be worth a shot, as the difference in value from a MS64 to a MS65 is over 4x
Perhaps you have an idea of what year that paticular type of slab might have been issued?

Hmmm, I don't recall reading much about that on the pcgs boards. Interesting!!!!!!!

A lot of the ones I've bought on eBay have had the stupid sticker on it. All but one have peeled off fairly easy, the other one I ended up putting a slight scratch on the hologram.

These are very rare and bring considerable premiums on ebay.
  • Yes I did, Cameron...thank you
Just have to match up the pics with the paticular one that I have.

  • Irish Mike...any clues to the premium this type of slab might be bringing?
  • He is joking. Thousands of slabs have scratched or missing holograms. They carry no premium and make the slab look damaged.

  • That is why I will probably submit it for re-grade/re-holder Cameron

    Thank you
