Home U.S. Coin Forum

Now over a 100 posts. A little about me since you all seem to know one another.

I'm an idiot as far as coin collecting goes but I'm learning alot from the rest of you so it's your faults. I live in NY..south of Rochester. I'm 32 yrs old. I have a wife and two children..(boy and a girl) and my wife wants to mess it up and have another but I'm not into it right now. Also a golden retiever. I work as a waterplant operator..pays the bills and new home but doesn't pay for these beautiful coins that you guys purchase. Damn...oh well I'll get there. Plan on getting a detector this spring as I have a great spot to search, 180 homes from the 1600-1700s used to stand in this location and now they're just foundations...can't wait. Well thats it. Nice to meet you.

Hey, that's where all those coin collecting early settlers were buried with their collections, the model upon which this group was formed.

Nice to make your aquaintance. Wish I'd have been more serious in my early thirties. Now that I'm in my late 40's, I've likely only got 6 or 7 decades left. image What do you collect?

  • Anything and all. My collection for what it's worth right now is all raw. Nothing of much value but I like em. Made a few purchases but I'm not into one type. Don't know enough yet and havn't been out to get the books.

Welcome aboard, This is a off topic thread for the US Coin forum. When I posted my happiness about my 100th post it was uncerimoniously moved to the Open forum where this thread belongs.

  • Anyone who will no doubt soon be putting together a 17th/18th century coin collection for free, isn't an idiot! Welcome--and show us what you get when the ground melts.

Would it be too much to ask that you post a map?image
Nice to meet you too !! I enjoyed your bio.....I'm Paul....
  • I feel the same as DHeath, but at the time I was in the same situation as you: early thirties, wife/kid, and not a lot to invest. Fortunately, the net has made it a lot easier to learn some of the basics. Now that I'm back I have so much more information available than before. I'm a Newbie on the forum compared to you, but you certainly have a lot more going for you in terms of time/information. Welcome. image

Welcome aboard. The amount of money you spend on this hobby is not relevant to the amount of pleasure you can derive from it. There is a little kid in all of us that comes out in collecting the coins you like. Hopefully as you spend more time in the hobby collecting your likes will expand. There are enough different coins, errors and related items that don't require much of a cash outlay. Whether you spend a lot of money or a little concentrate on coins you like collecting.
  • Welcome to the boards - I pretty much agree with the above statements - don't worry about the hobby, enjoy it image
  • Thanks all. Yeah I can't wait til spring. I'm a big hiker/backpacker so I know I'll have a good time searching for coins. Hopefully I'll be able to fill my backpack..image

Sorry all no map to scale but I've already found 16 foundations walking my dog. Would you trust me with the location I gave you anyway? image
