tampered slabs

Is it possible for someone to remove a slabbed coin and re-glue the halves together and sell it on eBay? I received a slab a long time ago and I cracked it open with ease in a vise. It came apart perfectly but the inside smelled like PVC or some type of glue. Needless to say I got rid of the coin.

Anyone have this happen?

I look at it like this: is a human being capable of such a thing? We know they can be opened and probably resealed to look original. Then it becomes a question of human nature. Be afraid.

yes on some companies slabs

no on newer PCGS, ICG, NTC, SEGS slabs
