OK I am probably an idiot, just hoping I am not the last I Paid $400 for a $10 roll of quarters.

Link to auction
I paid over $400 for a roll of $10 quaters. I have buyers remorse, I don't expect any comfort but I am hoping someone does not think I am an utter fool. If igured that the end roll coins go for $50 bucks each, today, the roll has at leat 2, probably 3 or more so I could at least break even. Shoul I keep the roll intact??????

  • would have been better if you traded the roll for a 'worn' *wink, wink* $10 bill.

who's to say it's not 2 of these varieties bought and wrapped at the ends,.. ? image

AGAIN I SAY THAT THE EXTRA LEAVE QUARTER IS AT EACH END OF THIS ROLL.$7.00 FOR PRIORITY SHIPPING WITH INSURANCE,FULL REFUND IF NOT AS DESCRIBED.

"hey! there were only two of these things, at the end of the roll!"

    ..

"yup, just as i described, no refund. thank you, come again."

EDIT: funky bidding on that too, odd closing price. i'm thinking,...ouch.

To sell the roll intact at a profit would require finding someone dumber than you - you have to decide if that is possible.

If the corn leaves are worth $50 each, you have a potential of $1,601 profit so you may not be as dumb as you think image

As you've already screwed the pooch by paying $400.00 (and it's not likely that you'll find a buyer at a higher price), you might as well open it up. I hope you make out on these.

    Cheers,

Wow!! I'd rip that sucker open and start dumping them on eBay like yesterdays newspaper. I just counted 35 on eBay already. It's pretty amazing how many are showing up since the CW article. I am huge variety guy myself but will wait till the dust settles on this one. Variety or die gouge?....guess we'll be hearing both sides in the coming months. Good luck!

  • Hey!

I've got another unopened roll of 2004 quarters. BUT - I'll make you a terrific deal on them...only $299 for the roll! That's 30% off!!! Interested?

  • I would like to have just one of those quarters. They are pretty cool.

I agree with Manorcourtman 110%. You may or may not break-even or even show a profit, but I think the worst strategy would be to hold onto the roll intact, hoping to sell it at a premium later. Strike while the iron is hot...or at least luke warm!

  • Hello,

Open it, keep a couple & sell the rest (if there are any) while you can. Who knows how many will be found in the next few months. Good luck.

I'm going to guess the entire roll is extra leaves.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

Kind of reminds me of the rush to pay amazing bucks for the first 1995 DDO Lincoln's. I would open that roll up, save a couple of the best, and sell the rest (if there are more than 2) as fast as possible.
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"
  • Hmmm, in the picture on the right it looks to me like the roll has been opened, inspected and reclosed.
  • in the picture on the right it looks to me like the roll has been opened, inspected and reclosed.

I think I agree. Is that possible on these rolls? I wouldn't have bid on it with it looking like that. I see that all the time - it says unopened, but then it looks like that.

  • I recently decided to go ahead and open up and search a bunch of these state quarter mint rolls. I don't want to promise you anything, but usually when I find a unique die crack or such, there is a run of them in the roll. I recently found an interesting die crack on Washington's eyebrow, sort of made him look like Mr. Spock. Thirtysome of the quarters in that roll (Kentucky if my memory serves) had that "feature". If the roll is genuine and unsearched you may be pleasantly surprised. Here's hoping so...

  • I don't really see that there was "questionable" bidding at the end of the auction I think the #2 bidder just ran out of time.

If you feel uncomfortable with the price you paid contact the guy you out bid (If it's legal with eBay) and see if he wants it at $430 with shipping included ???
