Do you think this ebay buyer is nuts, what would you do?

ScarsdaleCoinScarsdaleCoin Posts: 5,223 ✭✭✭✭✭
I received a email......shown below.......this is from a buyer who has about 3 + and 2-(same seller) as feedback........

What would you do????

Jon,

I asked you straightforward questions, and you gave me garbage for answers. There should only be 15 coins of each denomination, yet, there are 22 pennies and 11 halves. I’m sure you know that. All I asked you was which dates & mintmarks were missing. I guess I should have put my glasses on before bidding and not take you at your word that they were unsearched. Don’t worry, if I win the auction, I’ll complete the transaction because my principles won’t allow me to do otherwise. Unfortunately, the only loser here is YOU!

Pretty hard to offer an opinion when we're getting only a snippet of the relevant information.

true......was trying to shorten it...but since you asked

    his question 1st
I noticed that four of the half dollars are missing. Which date/mintmark? Six or seven of the sets have two pennies. Which date/mintmark?

    my answer was
to my knowledge.....none of the coins are missing .....they are assorted that is just what they have in them......Jon

what you see above was his response!!!

if the auction is still going on........I'd cancel his bid and block him. Not worth the hassle.

Yes, because I can't understand what it is you're trying to tell us!
  • I'm as confused by the answer as the question. A total guess is you were selling some number of different dated proof or business mint sets? And the buyer doesn't understand the coins that comprised these sets?? If so my answer would be a brief list of coins included by the US Government, saying they're being resold as issued, and further questions should be addressed to the US Mint as to their policies.

He's probably just upset about your anti-sniping campaign.
  • The auction description would be clearer if you specified what mint or SMS are included. (i.e. full 71 mint sets, full 65 SMS, "D" mints for 72, etc). That may have resulted in some of the confusion.

How about posting a link to the auction so we can see what is going on?
Who is General Failure, and why is he reading my hard drive?
  • I would have asked exactly what dates I was bidding on. Very sketchy information in the auction. However, I do think the guy was a bit rude, and should have just clarified his question. I would apologize and answer the guy correctly. (you asked)

Tell him he's a fruitcake, and cancel his bid. Tell him "my principles won’t allow me to sell to fruitcakes".

I find his email beyond annoying!

It looks to me like a failure to communicate. Your listing says you are offering 15 packs of coins - it appears the bidder took that to mean 7 or 8 complete sets. Then you did not answer his questions. Your response seemed a little evasive to me. If I were the bidder and received your answer I would have withdrawn my bid. However, the questions should have been asked before the bid was placed.

    Jon,

Very interesting auction, especially your anti-sniping portion as previously stated. You say in your auction that you will end an auction early (presumably because the price is too low), however you state you have "real deal" auctions with "no reserve".

    Is that not fee avoidance?????

    Thank you.

no not fee avoidance......I end auctions early and the highest bidder at that point wins.......I do not cancel out all the bids.......and for those of you who think I have never done this you can look at

auction 3951041738 and 3951044022 both had anti snipe turned on and ended early!

its totally random and I have done about 50 auctions this method......I have put the software on hold for the moment to reflect on various comments about it at the present time.....

Well, if that is the case, then I apologize. But, are you not losing money this way? You would get more with snipers, no? I understand the point you are trying to make, but I just think you are hurting yourself in the long run. JMO.

I bet eBay would love to find out you have software that ends the auctions before the scheduled end time. That seems against ebay rules to me or if there are no rules to that effect they might add them.

I guess I don't understand. Why would you end the auction early? I have not had nearly as many ebay auctions as you have, but my experience is that the final price usually goes up by a minimum of 20% maybe even 50% in the last few seconds. So why are you trying to limit sniping?

Guess the anti snipe wasn't on during this auction , starting and ending time down to the second,
secondly since you asked, you listing was vague and you didn't give the buyer a good response to
    his email.
Guess your anti email was working...just kiddingimageimage
  • He is selling fifteen packs out of mint sets or various dates. There may or may not be any full mint sets in the group. What you see is what you get.

The buyer is assuming that 15 packs means fifteen five coin packs cent through half so there should be fifteen of each denomination. He is confused because some of the packs do not have half dollars and some have extra cents etc. He does not understand what was in mint sets from the 60's and 70's so he thinks that there are coins missing from these packs. The seller, knowing that nothing has been cut out of these packs says nothing is missing and the buyer is thinking he is being ripped.
